I'm in a Native Perspectives Class and am supposed to be looking up Eskimo stereotypes. I was wondering what comes to your minds when you think of 'Eskimo'

Just curious what you guys think.

Thanks!

Whale eating hunters? People who take from the land but also give to the land, keeping a balanced cycle in the environment. I think of them as basically Native Americans in a colder climate.

That's my stereotype and if I'm wrong, please prove me so, I don't like having false knowledge.

actually that's fairly accurate. The Native people here are related to other native americans. :)and they do eat whale, when they are allowed to catch them.

Igloos, hunting, less educated (not my thoughtspersonally), wild, taking advantage of the land, no taxes, priviledges to land that others don't have...

:p

I lived in Alaska, and I know first hand what people say. (these are not my views personally, just some stereotypes)

They are: Drunks. Homeless. Poor. Uneducated. And of course live in Igloos.

I want to say again that I grew up with Native Alaskans as friends in school, and these views are in no way my own. So no Flaming me please. :pleaseplease:

I'm not going to flame you :)it was a question about stereotypes, not personal views.

I always think of the physical attributes individuals have - coloring, hair type, facial features etc.
