Hello!
Edgar is about 5 months now, hoping to get him fixed soon, and is an English Lop. He is INSANELY loving, and crazy about food! I also think he is a bored bunny :sosad

He started escaping his cage at night... so of course I found better locks. But I feel like he is bored! I have tried a MILLION toys, including a foraging box, and he just has 0 interest. Any ideas on how to keep him entertained? A bigger cage is in the works! Which I am hoping will help. I try and let him out as much as possible, but when he is out ALL he wants is to be loved and really doesn't run around and explore...

I was thinking about clicker training him. Do you think this could help? Any ideas and suggestions would be fantastic! I really need to bunny proof the room he's in... I feel like if I wasn't in the room he'd run around, like he was doing when he escaped his cage at night.

It doesn't sound like he is necessarily bored, but maybe lonely. If you can get him neutered soon and bond him, that should help.

I'd love to bond him to my Lionhead, Chive, but she also needs to be fixed. And she's a bit of a grump when it comes to him haha! But thats a good suggestions. Hopefully I can get them both fixed ASAP

If you can get both buns fixed bonding them would give them both something to do. Clicker training is definitely a fun experience for human and rabbit alike. I like to give my food-motivated pair puzzles. Boxes with holes in them and their pellets inside, treat balls made for cats, etc. That way they spend more time working on getting their daily pellet ration.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I was wondering how you can tell the difference between boredom and loneliness? I'd be interested in your insight on it:)

If a bun is being unusually destructive and seems to go out of it's way to do things it doesn't normally do, I would think that has more to do with boredom. I thought JBosley's rabbit might be lonely because of how it was mentioned that when he was let out, all he wanted was to be loved on and not go exploring. But these behaviors could also be a combination of both loneliness and boredom as well. I'm mostly just making guesses here, as you know our little buns can be a bit confusing at times :p

Thank you Jenny :)

I was wondering about this because Sophie used to really love running around a lot but now she just wants to snuggle with me and the cat on the sofa at night. I hope she's not lonely...her cage is always open when I'm home and not sleeping and I try to do as much as I can to keep her mind stimulated...I'm not in the position to get another rabbit now so I hope she's not lonely for rabbit company:(

A rabbit wanting to snuggle doesn't necessarily mean that it's lonely. It can also mean it just likes to be with you and your cat, and has bonded with you. Sophie is also older and has settled down. Plus some rabbits may have a less active and more snuggly personality. There are lots of things that you have to take into consideration, and like I said I was just making a guess. Plus you know your rabbit better than I do. If she seems content and happy, then she probably is :) Edgar may be perfectly content too. I was just offering one possibility for his behavior.

Thats a great idea! :biggrin2: Hopefully I can entertain my little man. I always strive to give the best possible life to my critters!

I will entertain ANY ideas and suggestions at this point... haha. I just feel he isn't a happy guy right now! And I want him to be happy. So I will be trying clicker training, food puzzles and bonding at some point!

I have found willow or wicker balls (same thing) a good item for them. I don't know if you have tried that toy? They like to roll them around & nibble on them.

I would suggest getting the largest one, as they tend to break down the smaller ones too quickly. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the suggestion! I will try and wicker ball, my Lionhead LOVES them :thumbup

Edgar was doing all kinds of binkying today! YAY! :hearts: I am hoping to make him a Neutering appointment the end of next week (depending on my pay) hopefully he is actually Male... if he is Female I will have to wait for more funding.

That's my problem too! I need to get him fixed so they're in separate cages, but when I let then play together occasionally, princess will be nice and kiss him one minute then pounce on him from behind and start ripping out fur! She is like 3.5 pounds lighter too!
