Can someone who is familiar with this breed tell me when do their ears start to drop down. How long for them to take to start looking like an English and not have airplane ears. Just wondering as my babies will be 3 weeks on Friday.

probably around six weeks.

Note:i'm not a breeder, i've never owned a EL or been around them, this is just an educated guess on my part from other posts and such;)

My litter's started dropping from a very young age; honestly, I don't think they were ever very helicopter-ish.

Here's some ear shots:

Hope that helped. :)

Wow, your bunnies are awesome! What are the average lengths of your bunnies ears? My babies will be 3 weeks on Fri and their ears dont seem that long to me. Am I just being too harsh on them. Is it still too early to make jugements?

Are those brown ones agouti? I have one like that and the other is a broken of that color?

Thanks for your replys,

Kate

The EL's ears stop growing at around 4-5 months of age, so they still have plenty of time to grow! ;)

The brown one is Revverress' picture is indeed an agouti--not sure if it's Chestnut or anything, but it is a type of Agouti. If you have one that looks like that, then I'm sure that's what it is, hehe.

Hope that answers your questions. :)

Thanks. :) The ear lengths of the litter averaged between 22.5" [runt; not sure if they're longer now as she's been sold as a pet :D] and 23.5" [longest]. The dam's length was 22", and the daddy's was 25".

Are you a member of the LRCA? I'd recommend joining; they send you a huge packet on raising English/French lops specifically, which is really helpful. I'll type you out an insert about young ELop ear length:

If at 4 weeks the ears are 11", you can expect a final length of 16.5"
If at 6 weeks they're 16.5", expect a final length of 20" inches.
If at 8 weeks they're 20.5", expect 22".
If at 10 weeks they're 22.5", expect 23.5"
If at 14 weeks they're 24, expect 25"
If at 16 weeks they're 25, expect 26"

Of course that's just a general rule of thumb; the line I use tends to mature very slowly, and it could be the same with your buns. What are the parent's ear length?

I'm not going to say how your babies' ears may turn out, as I really don't have enough experience to make any judgment like that. I'd start keep weekly updates of their weight and ear length now if I were you. I didn't start doing that until my litter was just shy of 4 weeks, and their ears were between 10.5" and 11.25", if that helps.

And yep, the brown ones are chestnut agoutis, although one of them ended up being chestnut agouti-chocolate, from what her current home tells me. I wish I had a more current picture of her; I'd love to get breeder opinions on her color. :p The grey ones are opals.

The ears stop growing around 16 weeks, and you can get up to .5"-1" later on in skull development.

Forgot to mention, but your baby is so cute. Makes me want more little loppers running around hehe. :biggrin2:

The moms ears are 22" and the dads are 23.5". In the moms pedigree the average seems to be 24 1/4" and dads is the same...they seem to have good ear length in their backgrounds with GG having 25" ears so I really shouldnt be worried.Like you said, they might just be slow developers. I cannot get over how awesome these guys personalities are. They babies are fearless and jump all over you like a playground. They were grooming my husbands mustache earlier (yup, hes a softee, lol). As far as LRCA, I have my paperwork all filled out, same with ARBA and another one for the state of NY...cant remember the name of it off the top of my head. Just need to get the fees in order and send it out. I plan to have it all set by next month. Cant wait! Thanks for the replys guys! It really helps!:apollo:
