Economically,

Property losses from the disaster have been estimated to be more than $400 million.

Political and business leaders strongly downplayed the effects of the earthquake, fearing loss of outside investment in the city. Fatality and monetary damage estimates were manipulated

Following the earthquake, the boom in housing was astronomical, with many new neighborhoods springing up from the rubble. It also led to a huge amount of substandard housing, albeit from the rush to rebuild, and the manipulation by officials of damages.

Socially,

My mind is blank..lol
