About a week ago, I noticed that Cheeto's right ear was bugging him. It's happened before, and went away on its own, so I waited to see if it would dissipate like before. Unfortunately, it didn't, so I brought him into the vet yesterday. She's a very good vet, very good with Cheeto, but I'm a new bunny mom and I want to make sure that her treatment is safe. Better safe than sorry, right?

So, she checked his ears, and there weren't any mites or any sign of mites. She said the right one was a bit inflamed and that she was going to prescribe some antibiotic drops twice a day.
Just making sure, the drops are actually eye drops; she said they're milder for rabbits than the normal ear drops. They are called AK-TOB, or Tobramycin Ophtalmic Solution.
Is this safe? I haven't seen any adverse effects so far, but I'd just like to be sure. I trust my vet, I really do, it's just that sometimes things get mixed up and I want to just make sure.
Overprotective much? :p

If they're made for eyes, they have to be mild enough for ears.

Was it the same ear both times? Was he scratching it, to cause the infection? [Just trying to think how you can keep it from happening again.]

I think the drpos are probably fine. In my mind, just keep a close eye that the drops totally eliminate the problem. I thought the drops had helped my bunny and actually it was a deeper inefction that went and turned into head tilt.

Thank you both for the response.
He started randomly shaking his head and scratching, so I'm assuming yes, the scratching started the inflammation. (The vet ruled out mites or fleas).

Don't worry, the vet said that if it doesn't go away within a week of using the drops, to call her to get an x-ray. Just in case.

Thanks for the peace of mind! Just wanted to be absolutely sure I wasn't making the problem worse with the drops.

It would be wise to figure out what caused the scratching, like wax in the ear, dry skin, or whatever; so you could treat the root problem before it happens again.
