i bonded Sophie and Hank when i got Hank back in september. Sophie is missing her ear but has a little "stump" with the hole for her ear on the top of her head. Hank is a california/new zealand mix and he has these beautiful over sized ears.

Sophie was always the dominant one, but she would always groom Hank's ears. that was kind of the first thing that started them bonding. but she will obsess and over lick his ears constantly. Hank would never return the favour until a couple weeks ago he started grooming her, and he will only groom her stump and will groom the same place obsessively until sophie walks away. not sure if there is a such thing as over grooming but they both obsess over each others ears and don't groom any other parts of each other!

Am i silly to wonder that maybe hank thinks sophie is "hurt" because her ear is missing? is this going to be bad long term? otherwise they are very loving to each other and don't hump. only Hank is fixed.

awww he notices something is different about her , how sweet.
and i want to mention that my willow who is 7 mo old never humped her bonded buddy wally (who is fixed)until like 3 weeks ago and now she won't leave the poor guys alone. he's a sweetie though and tolerates her. needless to say she has recently started doing other naughty thins like pooping and peeing on furniture and beds etc too! she has an appt to be fixed friday!

Aww, so cute!

My pair has been bonded since March - my female will only groom my boy's eyes (she's really rough about it too, but he doesn't seem to mind), and my male mostly grooms her ears. So I don't think it's unusual for them to focus on one thing and forget about the rest.
