Hi Bunny Lovers!

I have an 8 yr old female dutch bunny named Mr. Buns who has an ear canker.
She's never been to the vet, so I need to take her, but I'd like to know if ear cankers are treatable at home.
i've been putting olive oil in her ear and its gotten better since the picture, but I'd like to do more for her.
She is a free-roamer and has free roamed in the bathroom since I got her.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! She's my baby. Here's a pic of her infected ear:

Oils can help to some extent, but have to be applied frequently, and often prove unsuccessful at clearing up the mites once the oil drops are stopped. Treatment for mites considered generally safe for rabbits, are with Revolution (selamectin) spot on topical, or with ivermectin. I prefer Revolution as it usually requires less treatments and can be a bit safer treatment over ivermectin. If your bun has any Dutch rabbit genetics, this can especially be the case, as they can sometimes have a sensitivity to ivermectin and some other medications.

With the severity of your rabbits mites, a secondary bacterial infection may also be present, which would require the appropriate rabbit safe antibiotic as well(eg. Baytril). I agree that it would be best to have your bun checked out by a knowledgeable rabbit vet.

Hi,
When my dog had ear canker I bought this powder that worked really well and all mites where gone within a week.
Here's the link...

I hope Mr. Buns gets better soon!

Treatments and medications that are safe for dogs are not necessarily safe for rabbits. Some are even deadly. For example, Revolution and Frontline are both popular treatments for dogs to prevent fleas. However, while Revolution can be used on rabbits, Frontline will kill rabbits.

So please be sure anything used is safe for rabbits.

It is suitable for cats, dogs, horses, rabbits and small animals.

Could you clarify which product? The link just opens a search page....
