Not sure if this is the right spot to putthis but I thought that I would warn everyone with small animals.

I saw two eagles as I was coming over to my mom's place. Please keep an eye on your small animals, bunnies, cats, etc. Theseeagles will get small animals.

So just a warning thateagles are out there and to watch your small animals

I think I'll move this to the health and nutrition area since it applies to bunnies :)

I know we have to watch ALL the time cause we have owls and hawks here. It terrifies me!

Lucy isn't afraid of anything! She has a wire cage and I've seen her staring off a hawk, she did a binky and it flew away.

Some rabbits can scare off predators. But eagles and other big birds are very swift and smart. I would hate to see bunnies being captured by any predator.

Saudade: You should be very proud of your bunny for scarying that hawk away like she did. Very good Lucy!

yes, very frightening issue in my area as well. Birds of Prey are beautiful, but very bold. I bought a large piece of ply wood to cover the enclosure i have for outdoor play. Just to be on the safe side when the bunsare outside.

Several years ago, we saw a clip on Max-X or one of those reality shows--a father and son were in their back yard with their pet mouse on top of a picnic table filming the mouse climbing on a box when a hawk came into the frame and then there was no more mouse. A very sobering reminder to take care of your pet and to be aware of all predators. A Red Tail Hawk, which is very big, can hit more than 200mph when diving at prey.

Also what we all can do is when we have our buns outside on a harness and leash is get them very close to us when we see a Bird of Prey, because then the bunnies will look bigger and the Birds of Prey will not bother the bunnies.

Very sad to see that the mouse was caught by the hawk.

Which is why I mentioned tostand right next to your small animal when/if you see a bird of prey, or even think that you see a bird of prey.

I have had this experience with my chickens. Being close to the house, or having me near is NOT intimidating. I watched a hawk swoop right over our house and dive for one of my chickens. DH and I were about 20 feet away, and the chickens were in our front yard!

Fortunately, the chickens made it under a pine tree in time, and DH went screaming and running after the hawk. It flew away empty handed and the chickens were not hurt, but wiser!
