On Sunday I am going down to a dutch breeder in Oregon to pick out a little blue dutch. I was wondering what should I look for? I want it to be show quality I think (although I may fall in love with one of the ones with the white ear tips) so what should it look like? What are DQ's for a dutch rabbit?

You'll most certainly want to get an ARBA standard because the Dutch judging is rather complex.

Although markings are of the most importance, a competitive rabbit must also have good type.

There are numerous marking DQs. I don't have time to go into depth, but a few things to watch for are: tied front legs, nose freckles, split stops, white spots in colored areas, black spots in the neck area, and eye spots. Also lack of ring color in grays and lack of shading in torts (watch for faux/fawn "torts"). Be sure to check eye color.

Colored toenails are a DQ (rare, but I've seen them on occasion).

You can do a websearch for additional info.

Do you have a standard? If not...I know this is pretty general but it may help (taken from my study guide):

About Dutch Markings
1. [/b]Cheeks[/b]

A. Full, Even and well rounded
  1. Not Angular/Jagged
  2. To whisker bed but not into it
2. [/b]Blaze[/b]

A. Medium wide, wedge shaped
  1. Nose, whisker bed and taper to the ears
3. [/b]Neck[/b]

  1. Portion of collar behind the ears (it is this)
  2. Wide, wedge-shaped, clean and even
4. [/b]Hairline[/b]

A. Narrow white line between the ears
  1. DQ if not there
5. [/b]Saddle[/b]

A. Where the white fur ceases and the color begins
  1. Should be just behind the shoulders
6. [/b]Undercut:[/b]

A. A continuation of the saddle marking to the under part of the body
B. Should run close to the forelegs, but not touch them
7. [/b]Stops[/b]

  1. White markings on hind legs from toes to the 3[suP]rd[/suP] length
  2. Equal in length

Thanks for the info, I did some research in the web and found these two videos that explained it pretty well.

I can't wait to see all the babydutchies I am sooexcited....All this research into what they are "supposed to" look like could all be for naught I might just fall for a mismark. Who knows.
