They are not hard to breed for color. Most dutch breeders have different lines in their rabbitry. For example, they have a Black - Chocolate line and they would not breed a blue into that. For blues, they would have a black line that does not have chocolate in it.

Torts should only be bred to torts or blacks. Grays should stay with gray or black.

Basically, with dutch it is better not to cross color lines.

I think that what Skybunny meant was markings, not really colors. I have heard the same thing about Dutch, that it can be difficult to get the markings right for show.

Sorry this is all in italics, my 'puter is aparently in a decorative mood and I can't figure out how to make this shut off. :X

O.k. well I can post about that too. Dutch are not too hard to breed for markings but you will NEVER get the PERFECT one.

Most dutch breeders never breed a pair that has the same marking fault. For example, if your doe has long stops and so does your buck, then you don't want to breed them as the babies will have long stops too. It is a game of luck on the rest. I breed for type first, then markings. This means that I have been known to keep very mismarked dutch to use for breeding. I have also gotten some nicely marked babies out of those mismarked does.

I once owned two really good Show Dutch. They had one baby, a little girl, and they had really good markings but my mother flipped out because the mom, the female Dolly, bit her so that was the end of Dutch:?
