This morning we noticedthatouradolescent doe rex's right ear was droopy. Shecan still move it, and she is not favoring it or scratchingit. It does not appear to be infected or be damaged in anyoutward way. Additionally, her doe companion and shehave begunmounting each othermore often thanusual. After reading posts on a similar issuerelating to the effect of heat, we thought this may be the cause;however, our indoor heat has been consistent, and we are at a loss asto what could be producing such a specific andlocalizedreaction. Any suggestions?

Could she have had the ear slightly bent and damaged without obvious signs.... like during their mounting?

I think the bigger bunnies mature about 6 to 8 mos and then are stillteens for about a 6 mos to a year..... but I am only guessing as towhat I have read. I am sure someone with more knowledge willbe here soon.

I am just sorta bumping this up for you LOL!

We think she's between 6-8 months old.I did think she hurt it during the mounting. I've beenrubbing it and it doesn't appear to be hurting her. Cartiligeis what holds their ears up, right? Can that be broken orsprained, I wonder. I wonder if she needs treatment, or if itwill heal on its own.

Thanks for the bump. :)

No problem!

You know I think there was a thread about a similar thing. Ithink there was a bunny who couldn't even MOVE their earright.

Someone did mention the cartilige and all (yes that's what's in their ears).....

I'll see if I can find something on it.....

LOL! Sorry, but you know they love to worry us don't they?

Glad she's ok now :)

note:I missed that "doe" word somehow....

Oh, I am so glad she is back to herself. She just wanted to keep mom on her toes lol. I wonder what it was? Hopefully whatever it was doesn't happen again.

Yes, they do like to worry us, don'tthey. I will keep an eye on her, but so far, she is stillfine. I think she may have strained it during all themounting.

Kinda makes me glad I'm human lol. They sound like real handfuls. I was wondering if the girls are spayed?

I want to take a moment to say thank you for coming back and letting us know how she's doing. That was nice:).

Tina,

Good link to direct her to. It seems as though your first reply in thatpost was close to what Ronnelle was explaining. It is always great toread what Pam writes as well.

Tina,
They are not spayed, yet. We are currently saving up for that. I'mhoping that will help the mounting, but the vet said it may be more ofa dominance issue than hormones. Either way, they seem to have cooledit since Saturday. They are a handful! But, what fun to have around! You never know what to expect from rabbits.

Thanks, Carolyn!

How right you are. There is never a dullmoment. I'm glad they decided to cool it for awhile. So she just reallybossy huh? lol

What kind are they? Are they very big?

Tina

It's funny, she's bossy to Floppy (hercompanion), but really sweet to my husband and me. I guess she knowswe're the top bunnies. :) They are not big - they are both about 3.5-4lbs. I'm not entirely sure what breed they each are. I thinkButterscotch is a Rex, maybe a mini Rex and Floppy is some kind of lop. When do rabbits quit growing? I've attached a picture so you can seethem.

I've been reading the strand about the Flemish rabbits - they look so wonderful!! I love your "little" guy in the stroller!

How oldis your rabbit? If its a Lop bunnie thats normal but if it isnt maybetake him to the doctor? I hope nothing is wrong with your bun. Hope youfugure out what is going on. :dude:

Oh they are absolutely precious.I'massuming Floppy is the lop?, I love her markings and color.Butterscotch looks like a little doll baby.

You'd never know that just a few days ago she wasfeeling so frisky lol. At least she realizes ya'll are topbunnies.

I believe that for smaller breeds they are considered fullgrown by the time they are 6 months. If you askPam Nock shemay be able to help tell what breeds they are. She is amazing atit.

Thank you, Apollo is definitely a character.
