Well I was wondering if anyone knows about showing dogs. I just took my dog to the breeder I got her from and he wants me to take her to show. He believes she would do well.He thinks she would do good. I am thinking about it. She is 2 years old and not spayed yet. As soon as I am able to save the money she is going in for it.

Just cause here she is....

Is she registered? She would need to be registered with the AKC or UKC for you to show her in conformation shows. Conformation shows are like what you see on tv- Wesminster, Eukaneuba cup, etc.. If she's not registered with either of those organisations, I'm afraid she can't be shown. Does the breeder you bought her from show? If he does, he would be the best person to mentor you. Maybe just tag along with him to a show one day to see if it is something you'd be interested in.

Is she a pomeranian? She's so cute, and looks like she knows it, too!!

Oh, also, once you spay her she can't be shown in conformation shows. But she could be shown spayedin obedience, agility, or rally-o.

Not yet. Though her parents are. He used to show but his wofe has cancer so they stepped out of it. He did say he would help us if we do go forward with it.

Yes she is a pomeranian. Yes she knows it. We put clothes on her and she prances... She is a DIVA!

Her name is Akasha Maheret A.K.A. Kashi.

Yea showing her would be until she is spayed. It is going to cost almost $300 to spay her.

Showing can be expensive. Unless you have a club that hosts a lot of shows near you, there can be a lot of travel. For a Pom, there will also be lots of gromming. There are websites that can tell you more about showing. AKC is probably a good place to start

$300 for a spay seems like a lot. I don't think it cost that much to get my dogs spayed. It was only $180 plus tax

I can help you with the shows as my boss used to show Akitas. There are lots of shows at the Big E fairgrounds. I can have my boss call you or I can ask her if I can give her number to you. This way you can ask her. Her aunt is still currently involved with showing and breeding Akitas.

Just a thought, but I find it silly that spayed/neutered dogs can't be shown for conformation. Most cat shows now have separate classes for spayed/neutered cats. Some of the breeders I know on a cat forum will show their cats, breed a few litters, then s/n them and keep them as pets and continue to show them (or rehome them after s/n and allow the new owner to show him). Especially the boys, because intact males spray and have to have their own separate rooms, etc.

Anyway, I think she's gorgeous! Can she handle crowds, traveling, strangers touching her, etc? If so she might take well to showing.

I aggree on the spay thing.

Kashie loves to travel, She loves crowds, loves straners, loves to be touched. She is to social.

Though she thinks she is a rabbit. She eats veggies, she binkies and she does DBFs.

If you need more help I can give you my Grandmother's phone number, she'd be more than happy to help you. She did showing for a long time, breed and did training too. She has a lot of champion dogs and a lot of experience in showing. She showed/breed/raised English Springer Spaniels. And she takes really good care of all her dogs. :biggrin2:

My dog, Duke was actually from an accidental breeding, and he's a real sweetheart (she breeds for temperment and showability). And she showed my other dog Henry (different breed who is a national champion) but he's in retirement now.

I also know a little bit about how showing works. Just let me know if you need any help at all :)
