The only time I have seen Miffy close her eyes iswhen I give her the full body pet, from the nose all the way to hertail. When she is out of her cage and after running aroundthe living room some, she will flop down for a while but her eyes arealways open. Not even when she is lounging in her cage, theyare still open. Unless I sneak into the diningroom/livingroomwith a night vision goggles in the middle of the night, I am not sureif I will be able to confirm or deny this one.

Oh, and tonight after I herded her back in the cage, she was mad andwanted out so she thought that she could eat through thebars! I have a bowl under her water bottle to catch the water(she is a little sloppy) and she was trying to toss that around too!

Hi Hummer,

Two out of three of my rabbits sleep with their eyes open.

This is what Cali looks like. When I had first gotten her, Ihad sworn she was dead. I used to laugh at dajeti2because she'd always be waking up Apollo to check on him. Ididn't laugh anymore after I had gotten Cali. I knew exactlywhere Tina was coming from.

Thank you for the picture and the replies, atleast now I know that she does in fact sleep and that she is notalone! I suppose that they sleep with open eyes to be awareof potential predators? I actually had a friend who wouldalso sleep with her eyes open when I was little and that really freakedme out!

I thought I read, or heard somewhere, that theysleep with their eyes open to always be wary of predators. Could bethat's where the saying "sleep with one eye open" comes from.

My rabbits go back and forth between sleeping with their eyes open andclosed, although it's only recently that they've been closing theireyes. I thought I heard somewhere that they close their eyes when theyare feeling completely safe.
