Do you make a special food blend for your Buns or just use

Most people use a good quality plain pellet (no nuts, seeds etc), hay (preferably timothy) and some veggies. Not everyone give veggies.

The average pet rabbit does not need anything extra on a regular basis. Some breeders do use mixes to maintain body weight and condition, but it is not needed for non-breeding rabbits.

Dillan gets Manna Pro SHO pellets, rolled oats and barley mixed together, unlimited hay(it is what my grandpa buys for his horses so if it is timothy or grass I do not know), a little alfalfa hay and orchard grass as well as veggies and grasses/weeds.

The outside bunnies get hay and pellets with oats and barley added in a few times a week.

I don't make anything special for my buns. I use store bought Organic Rabbit pellets, i buy veggies from the grocery store and then order hay from Kleenmama's Hayloft online.

I bought some rabbit vitamin mix (some dried fruits and veggies in it) and mixed it with some pellets.

Are seeds and nuts bad? I remember the vet saying something about this, i remember the vitamin mix has some black seeds in it!

Should i avoid these?

Storm get Zupreem rabbit pellet and unlimited timothy hay mixed with orchard grass brome oat and a few others in the timothy.

He cant handle vegys so he only get cilontro on accasion. He is one of those rabbit in the wild he would not have made it.

His stomach goes into a tail spin over anything

Rabbits can occasionally have a few seeds--but not many! It's common practice in show rabbits to give a few (like 2-3) black oil sunflower seeds daily during a molt. During the rest of the year, seeds should be avoided.

I do make some treat biscuits that contain flax seeds, which have Omega-3 fatty acids, to improve my bunnies' coats. These treats are a lot like the Oxbow Barley Biscuits or Simple Rewards veggies biscuit treats--made mostly of hay, pellets, applesauce, oatmeal, pumpkin puree, parsley, and flax seeds all pureed together and baked.

The problem with seeds is that the shells are very hard on the digestive system--bunnies that were fed whole corn kernels have been found at necropsy following death due to GI stasis to have a TON of undigested corn hulls in their stomachs, some that must have been there for years. I would think similar things could happen with other seeds. Therefore, only a few at a time, and not all year--just during molts.

My rescue has had similar experiences with feeds containing dried peas. The director said she's seen two bunnies whose stomachs were completely full of dried peas at necropsy. I believe it is now in our adoption contract that if we find out an adopter is feeding anything with dried peas, we have the legal right to retrieve the rabbit.
