Does anyone know? Stan? Ryan's father has some awesome lenses from his Canon 35mm and I have a Canon Rebel Xsi. I wondered if there is a converter piece that will make these lenses fit onto my Rebel...

Some do some don't, you can try it. I had a macro lens that worked GREAT with my 35mm SLR, but is not compatable with my Canon Rebel XTi. On that same note, the telephoto lens I had for the 35mm is wonderful with the Reb. Both are Sigmas, though, and not Canon lenses.

I did try it, but the 35mm lenses don't fit onto the Xsi...that's why I wondered if there was a converter piece. I can't seen to find clear information online through google searches :(.

I don't to much know about Canon. You should check the Canonsite about the lens before trying it out. Canon do have adapters, they even have adapters to take Nikon lens.

I have no problems with my Nikon fitting my older Nikkorlens. Only problem is thatold lens are manual focus and only have fixed settings.

Well, I am still looking into the adapter for the 35mm lenses....but we had enough money in Target gift cards from the wedding to purchase myself a brand new 75-300mm Canon zoom lens!!!

You would be better off with the new zoom. The newer lens have better coatings and would be a better fit for your camera. Unless your Father-inlaw has some Pro lens, that would be a different story. :D

 I heard my name!

I have a zoom lens for my Canon (which is the camera model below yours Amy). I have the Canon 55-250mm IS lens. It's really good!

The reviewer doesn't exactly rave about it, but I have had no problems. It's light, the image stablilisation makes the world of difference, especially when you're using it at full zoom- where you'd be more prone to camera shake etc. It was also very affordable compared to other zoom lens prices.

Example shot with my 55-250mm lens (I am no pro, not even close lol so it's not amazing!)- a mandarin duck that I took on Saturday:

Just re-reading your last post.... did you actually buy the lens already? Sorry, if you have and I misunderstood! How are you getting on with it? Do you like it?

I already purchased the lens yesterday after work. I tested it out outside on some birds...but there wasn't any "wildlife" around. I am waiting for my "backyard bunny" to come out of his bushes, so I can try it out on him.

I like it, so far. It is what I was looking for. Plus....it was FREE :biggrin2:! We were able to get the lens, plus a ton of other things with our Target gift cards from the wedding.

That's good if it is working out for you. Now you have something to take to the zoo. :D
Exactly :biggrin2:! I will try it out at the zoo and see what I get. It will definitely be better then my stock lens. When we went to the local zoo in Phoenix I really wished I had had a zoom lens...so I am sure I will enjoy it at the zoo, seaworld, and the wild animal park.

I just checked the Canon 75-300 zoom. I don't thinkyou would be happy with it, if you want to take better pictures. See if other people (Mouse_Calk and Jenson) have this lens or know about it.

I haven't used the Canon version of that lens but I was also told to avoid it by a photographer friend.

I have this one:

Got it really cheap so it was worth it, it's done me well but I would like a better one when I will the lottery. :p

EDIT: Oops you've already got one, should've read the whole thread! Can't wait to see some shots with it!

That is another option ... to get a third party lens (Sigma). I know my Nikon lens has spoiled me, so it is hard to get lenses for myself because they are so expensive. I really need to win a lottery. :D One of my friends bought a Nikon 200-400 zoom costing over $5000.00, but she says something is wrong with it and it is not as sharp as she is expecting it should be. So no matter what lens you have, you may have a copy that is perfect or one thatcould beslightly off.

Many camera stores have a return policy for a full refund if you return a product within 2 weeks. Another friend of mine bought a Nikon D40, took it to Hawaii on holidays and returned it when he came back home.He ended up buying a higher model. That why I stick with my local camera stores when I make a major purchase and they can help me if there is any problems.

Well...we will be at Seaworld in 2 hours (yaaaay!!!)...so I will test out my new zoom lens there! I have a good feeling that I will be happy with it...but we shall see.

Like I said....it was totally FREE because of the wedding, so I can't complain too much :biggrin2:.

Later tonight I will upload some shots taken with the new lens for you guys to see.
