Digital Cameras

Well, I am in the market for a new digital camera. I have a Casio Exilim 7.2MP that is my work camera and is fine for what I use it for at work but I want a camera that takes better action and close up shots. I'll spend up to $250 - $300 for a good camera. What cameras do you guys have and what would you suggest? I know nothing about cameras, so any suggestions are very helpful :biggrin2:
