Sophie's Humble Servant

I got Sophie this April. After about a month of having her, she became really interested in digging. I provided her with sea grass and coir fibre mats which she just went crazy digging and pulling at. She created a "burrow" for herself almost on a daily basis. Sometimes I would leave her nest alone for a few days but eventually I would have to disturb it either to clean underneath it or I would have to gather up the fibres because she was dragging them all over my living room. The nest she made with the mat in her condo I tried not to disturb too much.

I noticed that sometime in August she pretty much stopped digging and making a nest/burrow. She will still occasionally pull a few fibres out but that's about it.

I thought maybe rabbits like burrowing more at certain times of the year? Like the instinct thing of making a nest and having babies? Could that be why? I thought for a moment that maybe my cleaning up the mess discouraged her? I hope not, that makes me sad:(

Sophie is spade and there are no other bunnies at our house.....just my cat:)

It is possible that if she was spayed right before you bringing her home that her hormones were still high and so she created a nest.

It could be that she was just releasing a lot of pent up energy if she was in a shelter and not getting enough exercise for a while.

Who really knows what goes on in these bunnies minds? Ha! I am positive though that if she wanted to build a nest she would wether you messed with it or not, they do know how to set their minds to something and nothing will stop them. :)

Ha ha ok thanks:)

It isn't from a recent spaying, she was spayed the first time at the shelter which was about 2 years ago. I adopted her during her second stay at the shelter.
