Yeah....actually saw it. I was about four cars in back of the one that hit him. I guess the only fortunate thing is that it didn't cause a multi-car pile up from everyone slamming on their brakes. My husband didn't help a lot when he said that I was lucky I wasn't the one that hit him. Can you imagine running down the road at 70 mph and all of a sudden there is a person in front of you. The guy actually made it across two lanes of traffic before he was hit.

I drive 120 miles round trip to work each day on freeways and believe me I'm always nervous about having an accident.

Me senior year I was a witness to a murder of a teacher right in front of me during second period.

I still hate thinking about it.

It was so horrible. I was the closest one to it and god I still see it. It wouldn't go away. Everywhere I turned it was there. We were on court-tv and 2 years later I had people coming up to me. I saw you on court-tv what was it like. Horrible. I saw a man lose his life as well as a boy who never got help lose his.

:shock:Wow....my experience pales in comparison to yours. Yours is so personal. I'm sure it had to be extremely traumatic; especially for a teenager.

im so sorry that you have all had to wirtbess these awful things :(

Oh, gosh, that's horrible! I feel bad for the children on the school bus who saw it happen, too. And JadeIcing, wow. That's just awful. I'm glad you were okay and no one else was hurt... how horrifying.

I've never seen anyone killed, but this summer I worked for my university's dorms. During the summer, the empty dorms are turned into hotels for guests. One day I got a call from an elderly woman who was worried because she hadn't heard from her husband in 6 days. I ran up to his room, keyed in, and the poor guy was dead in bed. He'd been dead for at least five days and it was HOT. Poor guy and his wife... They repainted the walls, replaced the furniture and put in new carpet, then forbid anyone from saying what room the guy was in so as not to freak out the freshman who would be living in that room this year! Also, not two weeks before then there was a 6 hour police standoff with a crazy gunman who was shooting a rifle out a window not 50 feet down the street from where I live. Luckily, he didn't hurt anyone and thank goodness they were able to take him into custody without him dying. I was close enough to hear the guy yelling and the police radios. This is a pretty safe area, but he was here visiting his mom who lived in the house...

I used to work as a Paramedic. While I never saw a killing, I have seen the outcome.

On the other hand, this is a hard one for me:

Two years ago on my way home from work I was two cars behind an incident on the road. Vehicles screamed to a stop and mayhem took place. I got my car off the road (into a yard since there was no shoulder or driveway to pull into) and Iran to help.

It looked as if a pedestrian had been ran over. I stayed and helped until the ambulance took the person away.

Of course there was talk at work the next day about the idiot kid who had been killed. He had tried to climb out a truck window to get into the bed of the truck where the rest of the alcohol was. Aparrantly he stepped onto the running board of the truck. It broke off and the kid fell under the truck.

When I got home from work I had a message from my Mom asking me to call her.

She was in tears when I called, and when she started by telling me... Honey, you remember Mark *, the little boy you taught to tie his shoes when you babysat for him...

I was absolutely sick over the incident. The young man who literally died in my hands was the little boy I had babysat from the time he was 6 month old until he was 7 years old - and I was clueless that evening on the side of the road.

His was a closed casket funeral so I couldnt do it then, but ever so often I go to the cemetary to make sure all is well - and to leave a tied shoe lace by the ever present flowers.

OMG Leaf that's so sad. I was almost in tears by the end of your post. My eyes are still watering. I would have started crying as well. That's very sad.

Fortunately i've never seen anyone be killed right in person. I would have been very scared. But I have seen dead people, at funerals of course, and on the scenes of car crashes. Their was really bad car crash when i was coming home from a rabbit show one day. The car was like a SUV and it'd be tossed over and smashed into a huge rock wall on the side of the freeway. It was all bashed in and I couldn't tell if anyone was hurt or not, because the paramedics were already there. I think there was a body bag but im not sure as we went by too fast. It looked pretty bad, and i was fortunate it hadn't been us, but sorry for those people and their families at the same time.

Everyone's experiences really drive home the fact that life is way too short. It makes you think about your own mortality. I need to go hug the bunnies now.........
