Hello!
I really need help with the litter box training. I have two bunnies and they are sisters. They are about 2 years old. I bought a big litter box with care fresh litter and we've been trying to train them but somehow they just don't get it.

I did the "putting feces and urinated paper" in the litter box. They still poop outside of it. I put all the poop outside of the litter box in it, but it still didn't work out. Only few times did they pee/poop in their box.

They like to dig in the litter box, too, so I think they're used to it (we've been trying for a while..)

I also read that if they're about to poop, I should put the bunny into the box. But the problem is, when my sister or I are watching them, they wouldn't poop. I waited 2 hours in their outdoor cage, fed them and pet them, but in the end they didn't poop. They would just be cute, clean themselves and nap. Then I step away for a moment and they poop everywhere!!

I really love my bunnies but I can't have them indoors unless they're litter box trained :( They have a really nice outdoors area but I do wish to take them home sometimes.

I don't know what else I can do.

When they poop outside the box, is it in just 1 or 2 other places? If so, move the litterbox there. You also need a 2nd box anyway.

You also might want to try switching to a pellet litter [wood or paper] & use the current in a dig box, as that's what they're mainly doing with it anyway.

Are they doing all the urinating in the box? If so, I would consider them trained. The occassional poos are fairly normal. The poos are dry and clean anyway (or should be) so they shouldn't be a big deal to sweep up.

Or are you describing something else? If so, how is the rest of the cage set up? Is there bedding or blankets or what on the areas outside the litterbox? Where is the hay? Have you tried putting hay in the litterbox on top of the litter?

I got lucky with Weston and he took to the litter box pretty quickly. For awhile he would still pee and poo on my bed (i had blankets down so it didnt get on my bedding) but he was just marking. Now he leaves the occassional turd on my bed but they are really easy to pick up and its not a big deal.
I would just keep at it.

They don't poop in 1 or 2 other places but more. They also don't really pee in the box. if they do, its really just luck. It's not just occasional poos either, it's a lot!!

I might consider a digging box for them because they really love to dig. Thank you for the idea :)

But yeah I will spay them soon and hope that their training will get better

I think that's the issue right there. Both your girls need to be spayed. I found with my girls and boys that I have had/ have, their potty habits improved a lot with spaying and neutering. Good luck!

I got an oversized disposable aluminum roaster pan for $3-4 at the grocery store and bought a cheap bag of topsoil that I used to fill it about halfway - my bunnies love that thing and they're soooo cute when they're playing in it!

(sorry the pic is so big, I've tried to resize it both in the editing program and on photobucket but they always come out huge on websites :()

I'm crossing my fingers on the spaying thing as well - mine poop a lot in the box because it's below their manger but always make at least one other pee corner in their cage and leave little poops all over the place! they do seem to only pee in the cage (thank god), as I've never found pee on the tarp flooring of the pen their cage is in, but the poop is kind of overwhelming and I have to sweep their tarp daily ><. I've heard from multiple sources that spaying makes it easier, so I'm eagerly awaiting the day they're old enough for their surgery.
