Hi Everyone,

Just hope that fellow breeders can share their experiences. I have not risk it before but was wondering if it is normal for a pregnant doe to show interest in mating when she is almost due for kindling. I have a doe that will be due in less than a week. Whenever I stroke her back, she will lift her vent just like how she would during mating. Is this normal or she is doing this because the previous mating failed?

Thanks in advance!

Depends on the individual doe. Receptiveness is not a good indicator as to whether or not the doe is pregnant. Some pregnant does will accepta buck - others won't.

Thanks Pam!

You guess it very well why I am asking the question. I am doubting that my doe is pregnant that's why. LOL...

Alright, another question of the same kind. I notice she is a little plump compared to when she wasn't pregnant. I used to feel kits (not palpate) when the doe is near the due date. I could feel kicks. This time around, I could not feel the kicks. Just wondering if kicks could be good indicator? Or it is impossible to feel kicks and I am just feeling her gut move?

The best time to palpate is 14 days after breeding when the feti are easily distinguishable as being grape size and consistency. It can be difficult later in pregnancy to discern the structures of the tightly packed feti.

Why don't you palpate her? It should be easy at this stage of the pregnancy.

Thanks for the pointer. I believe the next thing I need to learn is to palpate. I have never done palpation before and do not dare to do it in case I risk damaging the fetuses. And the doe is due in another 4 days so I can't palpate at such an advanced stage of pregnancy if I know how to.

Guess I just have to wait for another few days to see if she is really pregnant. LOL. I am just an anxious bunny papa.

Pam, you are very right there when you said "tightly packed feti". That is very reasonable because I do feel a big blob in her lower abdomen when I place my hand under her. Thanks so much!
