My rabbit has had a bit of a decreased appetite the last few days. The first day (4 days ago) he wouldn't eat and didn't poop and he was pressing his belly into the ground, so I thought this might be gas and I gave him a belly rub which seemed to help, because soon after he was pooping and eating normally again for a day or so..

Then after being back to normal for a day, he just seems to have lost interest in his vegetables. He gets romaine lettuce, dandelion and bok choy as much as he wants and 1 carrot a day divided (half in the morning half at night)

He usually goes through about 4-6 cups of green veggies a day, but now is only eating about 1 leaf of lettuce a day and only when we put it up to his face and hold it for him. The same with his pellets... usually he comes running when he hears the bag opening, but the last couple days I have to bring his bowl to him and then he eats them. He is still eating all his pellets, but only after I bring them to him (1/8 cup a day divided in morning and night like the carrot)

He is still drinking lots of water and pooping, and still very active and playful and cuddly and does not appear to be in any discomfort. His is still eating his Hay...and it seems to be the only thing he will eat on his own without us having to put it in his face. Its just very odd that he isn't eating his veggies and isn't as excited about his pellets as he usually is.

There is nothing new in his diet...this is what we have been feeding him for years. He is 8 years old, and gets lots of exercise as he has free run of our apartment and is litter trained.

Just wondering if anyone else has gone through this and if you have any insight. Thank you for your time!

I'm not an authority on feeding aging rabbits...our oldest is 5. I think rabbits are like people in that as they age they don't tolerate some of the things as well as when they were younger. It might not hurt to give him some probiotics and thensee if you can isolate which greensmight be giving him some trouble. Pellets and hay are pretty safe no matter what the rabbit's age.

It could partly be the heat. But I would increase the pellets somewhat & reduce the greens [though he's already done this] & see if that helps. You might get a small bag of alfalfa pellets & mix that with, or alternate that with the timothy.
