I went to do my evening feeding.. bringing the Mom's in to the kits..

I brought out 5.. and I noticed one wasn't with the others in the nest.. so I stuck my hand in and felt cold baby.

So it's normal to lose one at 4 days old.. right?

This doe has already had 2 others that were in trouble, and had to be taken care of. He looked way better off than the other 2. He actually did not look any different than the other ones that were still alive.

So back to my questions.. normal to lose one? Or was this just a troublesome litter?

And he was by himself.. did the other's know and moved away from him?

I changed the bedding out..

Everybody else seems healthy..

I think it is "normal" to lose babies at 4 days. Most peanuts I've had have hung on till at least 4-6 days. If other babies are having troubles, then perhaps you are correct in suspecting some genetic problems. Perhaps they did not develop something properly, like the digestive tract or liver or something.

I hope the rest of the babies do okay.

Yeah Zin other than the ones that die straight away i find mine usually manage around 4-5 days but never manage more than that.

The rest are sounding like they are doing well though:)
