Ok So I thought i'd post this since I know some of you are also doing dairy free diets. I finally got to try the "So delicious" dairy free ice creams and ice cream bars. They are SOOOOOOOOO freakin' good. You can't even tell they aren't real ice cream.

I bought "Organic So Delicious chocolate peanut butter" http://www.turtlemountain.com/products/organic_soy_delicious_chocolate_peanut_butter.html

"Purely Decadent(made with coconut milk) mint chocolate chip" http://www.turtlemountain.com/products/purely_decadent_Coconut_Milk_MintChip.html

And a ice cream bar(can't find it on the site). It was vanilla coconut milk ice cream, covered in dark chocolate with coconut flakes in the chocolate. Ugh, so yummy. It tasted just like a dove bar. Rich and creamy goodness.

So I just thought i'd spread the news about an actuall YUMMY dairy free product. This company also makes a dairy free yogurt(made from cocnut milk). The store I shopped at didn't have any but said they are ordering it in. I can't wait to have yogurt too!

I also bought a few new brands of soy cheese to test out. The last soy cheese experiment wasn't a great success. Hopefully I like these brands more. I can report back if you want to know about the cheese review.

Thanks for the reviews!

Although I do eat dairy, I often check out the dairy-free section in the freezercase. I find that there are sometimes some really different, interesting, delicious flavors offered in the non-dairy frozen treats. I'm all about interesting flavors!

I have yet to try any of the coconut milk types, I'm not so much a fan of the Rice Dream frozen dessert. (I don't eat a huge amount of ice cream, anyway, so it takes me awhile to try things!)

Our walmart had Soy Delicious for a bit, I tried it. It was good, it did not make me want to sit down and eat the whole thing either. But at almost $5 for a small thing I could not buy it and feel good.

The coconut milk so delicious are definitely better then the soy ones. But the soy ones are still better then the rice dream kind.

If your store carries the soy variety they should be able to get the coconut milk kind too.

Are these brands available in the US? My 18y/o and I both have severe issues with milk now :( And two adults gets pricey. He has adapted well to soy and rice milk, but the issue with those is an um....to put it delicately...an um...air issue which can be very embarassing for an 18y/o young man who is dating and just joining the adult work world. So we're still looking for a non dairy product that he can havethat doesnt have that side effect. His new favorite is rice crispies with vanilla soy milk on them.

Is there a Whole Foods near you? I have seen coconut milk ice cream there, though I can't recall the brand(s) they carry. They probably have other coconut milk products there, as well.

It's about an hour away but maybe worth a trip once a month to stock up. I know I need another source for my fall stock up of flour and oatmeal ( I buy a 10lb bag of oatmeal every year and the kids have a blast making their winter's worth of "instant" oatmeal. They take baggies from the dollar store and measure out their oats, brown sugar, raisins etc and then create their own instant breakfasts.

The website I posted has a store locator. Or since their store locator doesn't cover canada I emailed the company and they sent me a list of every store that sells it in my city.

I used to get all of my stuff from our food co-op, but we gave up our membership when we put our house on the market. I had to pay for one year at a time and it was just pricey enough that I dropped it thinking we wouldn't get to use it enough for it to pay for itself. Now a year later I wish I had kept it, but we're still on the market and trying to move so I have to find another source other than Kroger where they charge me 8 bucks for a container of ice cream :(

Which store did you get the Purely Decadent mint chocolate chip? :lookaround
Planet organic on Jasper Ave. The Terra Losa Safeway supposedly also carries their products but I havent' checked there yet.

I finally made it to Whole Foods today. I saw two different brands of coconut milk ice cream, in a huge variety of flavors. Unfortunately, both brands were $5.99 per quart. Might be nice for a treat, though.

Yeah, they are more expensive then regular ice cream thats for sure. But if you are on a dairy free diet its nice to have a treat, even if it does cost more. Here the the quart cost about 8.99$CAD and a box of 6 bars was also around 8$. But they are so yummy and I haven't had ice cream in soooo long they were worth buying:)
