Hi all,

A few days ago, I noticed a tiny bit of crust in the inner corner of Zeke's left eye. It was the slightest bit red in color and stuck to his fur. He let me gently pinch it and pull it away. Just now, I noticed another bit of crust in the same eye. It was no different looking than what any of us might occasionally find in the corner of our eyes in the morning! Again, he let me gently pinch it and pull it away from his fur. His left eye doesn't appear much different than his right eye. It's not red or anything. The slit where his eye meets in the inner corner might be a little bit swollen. Is bunny eye crust normal or should I get him to the vet ASAP?

My rabbit Raph gets a white crust in the corner of both his eyes that I have to regularly wipe away. However, with him I believe it might be because he cannot properly groom himself. He can't sit up on his hind legs to wash his face, so crust accumulates there.

In your rabbit's case, it could be the start of an infection, or he could have a fleck of dirt or some other small object irritating the eye. It might be a good idea to have a vet check it and make sure nothing is there. Better safe than sorry...

Half of my buns get the "sleep" cleaned out of their eyes every morning. It ranges from soft to hard...and white to brown in color.

The other half of the buns must clean it out themselves.

Binkie never has it, but while she had her hood on she did because she wasn't able to groom her face. I cleaned her eyes every morning until the hood came off, and then she picked up the cleaning from there.

Sounds like it could be normal! I'll keep an EYE on it (no pun intended...) and if other symptoms arise or it becomes much worse, I'll get him to the vet. I was worried because he nor any of my other buns have ever had this.

Thanks for the reassurance. :)
