So I was wondering if you guys could critique the babies? They're only four weeks old, by the way ;) So here we go:

100_0270.jpg
BUCK

BSA's Louieeville Slugger (Louiee for short)

Kind of a bad picture. He wouldn't set up nicely, or hold ears up...haha. Whatcha think?

100_0267.jpg
DOE

BSA's Taking Chances (Chancey for short)

Whad'ya think? Also a kinda bad pic. She wouldn't set up nicely, or hold her ears up....or keep her eyes open! :p

100_0265.jpg
BUCK

BSA's Cadbury White Chocolate (Cad/Cadbury for short)

And Finally......

100_0264.jpg
DOE

BSA's Sheza Darlin' Cass (Cassidy or Cass for short)

I was looking this picture over...and thought, wow! She has a big head! Is that just me or??

By the way, do you like their names? :biggrin2:

And be proud, I actually sexed them all correctly! I totally get how to sex bunnies now!! :) :biggrin2:

Ok, then here's my critque:

Buck #1- Lacks depth over the HQ and slopes off way too fast over the HQ.

Doe #1- Had a little better profile than the previous buck. She still lacks in depth and is flat over the HQ. Watch those ears too, they may still grow into them since they're so young but they are looking a little long.

Buck #2- He peaks a little late, but I like his overall profile better than the previous two. He looks a bit fuller and rounder over the HQ. Again, watch those ears.

Buck #3- Probably my pick of the litter at this point in time. He looks to have nice depth and density coming in. He seems rounder and fuller than the other 3 over the HQ. And he has a nice massive head and smaller ear which balances well with his body. I'd grow him out for awhile.

Disclaimer is that I'm no Mini Rex expert, so someone else may have a more detailed evaluation. But that's what I see so far! They are all still a bit young to judge and could change a lot within a few weeks.

OakRidge, there's only 2 bucks. 2 of each: buck & doe. The last one that you think is the best is a doe ;) Also, I see you breed Hollands, but Mini Rex's head aren't supposed to be "massive" ;)

Right, but they are supposed to balance with the body. Generally, you want a larger, wider head in comparison to a very small, snipey head from what many have taught me about the breed. It depends on the individual rabbit, my comment was particular to whatever the last one was because it balances better in my opinion than the others do.

I know how hard it is to properly pose such young babies... and they areawfully young to be evaluated...

But from the photo's shown, I agree, Buck #1 (Louiee) slopes off too quickly and lacks rise over the hindquarters.

Doe #2 (Chancey) I'd give her time to grow up a little more. I can't tell if it's the way she is posed or how her fur is laying... she could use a little more rise over the hips and a little more fullness over the hindquarters. (Is she the biggest of the litter?)

Buck #3 (Cadbury) I think his shoulders are a touch lower and longer, makes him appear to peak late, (again, could be the way he isposed)but really nice rise....

Doe #4 (Cassidy) I like her... even with the "larger" head. I think she will grow into a really nice doe.

JMHO.... :D

Edited to add: I wouldn't make any concrete decisions on them yet. A lot can change over the next few weeks.

Ahh gotcha, OakRidge.

BlueGiants, thanks :)
I'm not sure if Chancey is the biggest of the litter... That picture sure does make her seem that way! I'll have to see.

I will post pictures of them in a couple of weeks and see if they've changed ;)

Emily

Okay...

Buck #1- Long and flat. Peaks to early and has messy HQ that slopes way to fast.

Doe #1- Better than the buck. Still, long and flat on a general level. Needs more depth.

Buck #2- I like him better than the first two. Appears to have better depth but pretty long in shoulder and the peak is a little off.

Doe #2- My pick atm. She's got the best depth, that GORGEOUS little buck head. Maybe a little sloppy in the HQ, I can't really tell with the angle.

Buck and doe #1 should be culled. I would hold on to Cadbury and cassidy, breed Cadbury to a doe with good depth and great shoulders, Or maybe back to his sister- they would make decent babies, looks like.

ETA: Judges tend to favor the bigger headed animals to the snipey, weak headed ones. A mini rex is not supposed to be massive, no, but, most breeders strive for a bigger, bulkier head on them. It's cuter, I definitely think, and correct.

Thanks for the critque's, but do keep in mind that the first two pictures are not taken at straight angles, so while you say they have "messy HQ that slopes way too fast", it may just be the angle ;) And the first two were not posing correctly ;) I did mention that, so please take it into consideration that it may just be the way they're posed/angle of them or the camera. ;)

Erin, I will be selling all of them; not keeping any and I defintely do not inbreed at all ;)

Also, I feel you judged them too harsh, especially by saying buck #1 & doe #1 should be culled - they're only 5 weeks old. ;) That really upset me. While I know that's your opinions, that seemed too harsh.. I wasn't asking for your opinion one what I should do with them.

Emily

Sorry, sorry, I didn't mean to offend or upset you. Cull doesn't neccessarily mean Kill, you know. Just looking at it from a serious perspective, those two probably won't get you far breeding MR.
Again, sorry, but I stand by my post.

No need to apologize Erin ;)

As for the first two babies, I will probably just sell them as pets only. But I am giving them time to grow out and see if they can start looking better.

Also, my sister and I are showing them at county fair in August, so we'll see how they do, and what the judge says about them.

Emily

Lol, Thanks Jacklynn.
I am going out to the rabbitry to feed; will be taking new pictures of the babies for a critique. The final critiques will be what I go on to determine if they're pet/brood/show.

All four (unless sold before) will be going to my county fair the last week of July. So I can see what the judge has to say, and if the ones that I deem pets turn out to be better, then I can switch it. ;)

Alright here we go:

Louiee, Buck

REAR

BabiesTypedJune27003.jpg
RIGHT SIDE

BabiesTypedJune27004.jpg
HEAD. He had his eyes closed ;)

So my thoughts is that Louiee will probably be our Pet buck out of the litter.

Cadbury, Buck:

REAR

RIGHT SIDE

For Cadbury, I'm thinking Show/Brood buck.

Chancey, Doe:

REAR

BabiesTypedJune27009.jpg
HEAD

BabiesTypedJune27010.jpg
LEFT SIDE (Sorry for the awful picture. She was being a little brat, haha, and I didn't put the camera at a good place to take the picture.

BabiesTypedJune27011.jpg
RIGHT SIDE. This picture makes her look tiny.

For Chancey, I'm thinking Show/Brood doe.

Cassidy, Doe:

BabiesTypedJune27012.jpg
LEFT SIDE. She too was being a little brat, so this pic of her typed out isn't the best.

BabiesTypedJune27013.jpg
REAR

BabiesTypedJune27014.jpg
RIGHT SIDE. Bad angle.

BabiesTypedJune27015.jpg
HEAD.

For Cassidy, I'm thinking show/brood doe.

So critique them, please!

By the way, they're 7 weeks old on June 28th.
And they are all REW Mini Rex. ;)

Okay so, here's the deal:

I'm thinking they're all pretty long and flat. It's possibly the way you're posing them- but their poses look just about right. Also another problem I'm seeing is shoulders- you will really want to watch that. Overall, I seeChancey as the pick of the litter at this point.

Louie- I see the long and low issue. He's narrow, seems to have very long ears... Also, in the right profile pic, he almost looks like a mandolin typed bunny- which is one of the reasons I was concerned about posing. Overall, pet quality, like you stated.

Cadbury- Long and low in the shoulders. He also looks very hippy and appears to show a great deal of a taper, kinda narrow... He looks a little pinched in the HQ but otherwise seems to have a nice, smooth-ish HQ. Again, watch those ears. I would wait and watch how he develops... he looks like he has fair potential.

Chancey- POL I think. She shows the best depth, a beautiful, bold buck head, although she peaks a tad early and appears to be just a touch pinched... I think she has the most potential in the litter. She looks a tad hippy, but that's perfectly accepatble for a doe. :D

Cassidy- Mm... Looks to peak a little late. Potentially undercut, but, I can't really tell. Looks pinched in the loin and HQ... But could fill out as she ages. Nicer hips than Chancey but looks pretty narrow in the shoulders. Doesn't show such great depth. I'm not a big fan of her head.

Honestly, I'd have to put my hands on them to give you a real evaluation. ;)

Thanks Erin :)

You're right about the posing! lol. Some of them were difficult to pose, hence why they look like mandolin-type rabbits. I can repose them and get better pictures. I have to work with them on posing correctly anyways.

Cadbury is a bit chunky, so I'm thinking why he looks pinched is because his stomach is so fat! Lol. I noticed that too, though. But he's the fattest of the bunch and it's all in his gut. :p
