This is our first bunny and this is his new cage we got him...

Water bowl and a pellet bowl. Hay holder on the side. Warm fluffy bed and a hosue the fits over it (doesnt go in it very much). A litter box. And some scattered toys.

Hows everything look? Missing any essentials? We are planning on adding a second floor.

PS- Sorry about the poo, we had just gotten home and cleand up shortly after. He is litter box trained yet lol.

The first thing I would do is get rid of the bedding everywhere but the litterbox. If the cage has a solid bottom, you really don't need any bedding and only having it in the litterbox will really help with litter training.

I'm having trouble telling how big it is without a bunny in the picture for reference, but it looks a little small. A good sized cage should have enough room for the bunny to take several hops from one side to the other. and to stretch up tall.

My buns aren't fans of beds. Timmy has a second litterbox he likes to sleep in though. I think it really depends on the bunny.

Oh, so no litter on the floor at all? Hmm what about paper towls or just bare plastic?

The cage is about 30 inches long and 18 wide, it is a little small but we plan on upgrading as he gets bigger, he is still small.

I think the size of the cage is a bit small. Can you add an xpen or something on the outside so he can have more space to run around?

I agree with missyscove that you don't need the litter on the bottom of the cage at all. I bought fleece from a fabric store and use that. I cut each yard of fabric into 3 pieces that fit well on the bottom of my cage. I take it out once a week or so and throw it in the wash. My bun doesn't sleep on it at all and prefers the cool cage bottom (maybe buns do, so the bed probably isn't necessary), but he absolutely loves the traction it provides and won't walk around his cage without it. Warning: some buns will pee on absorbant material, so I would maybe keep the bottom bare for a bit until your bun's litter habits are solidified, then add the fleece.

Having some type of hidey house is important and maybe your bun will use it more if you take the bed away. If he still doesn't use it, maybe provide a small cardboard box and see if he likes that better. Most buns prefer to sleep somewhere that's covered.

My buns just use the plastic bottom in their cages. I know some buns won't walk on linoleum or hard wood floors, but mine will just fine so I don't have any worries about that.
Does he get a lot of out of cage time?
If you're planning on upgrading him, be sure to look around the forum for cage ideas. I think having a cage that works well for your rabbit and you can really make or break your opinion of rabbit ownership.
