Hi,
I am wanting to start a new rabbit breed. I want it to have rex hair with the looks of a netherland dwarf. does anyone have any advice on this?

thanks.

I think somebody may have tried this...not positive. Maybe not. lol

It's going to take a bit of time to get them to mix just right. So be prepared to have A LOT of rabbits to cull as pets or whatever. Both rabbits have very different body types so you may have to spend a lot of time to get them to fit the netherland standard.

If you want to get them recognized then you have to go to ARBA nationals and have them judged and passed a few times after you get the COD (Certificate of Development).

Maybe you might want to ask ARBA. lol

A number of breeders have actually worked on the "micro rex". They are not a breed that could be accepted under current ARBA rules because they are basically a Netherland Dwarf with a rex coat and not unique enough to warrant sanctioned status.

I would not suggest creating a new rabbit breed just for the sake of doing it.

If you'd like a challenge, maybe you can work within an already recognized breed, but work on a rare color, or a color that is not recognized but has a COD on it? :)

Oh, I See. What could make them really different? lol
A breed like the Lionhead was considered unique enough to vie for breed status, but I think we're running out of options under the current ARBA regulations. There are many breeds that have been developed such as the Mini Plush Lops that are ineligible.

I see, it just sounded fun to make a new breed. We have alreeady been breeding rabbits for 5 years. Our hollands are the best so far. What is a rare color in the netherland dwarfs? I have just started on them and I have some different colors.

Orange, Steel, Fawn, Opal, Lynx, and Lilac are the varieties I don't see often at shows.

Shadeds still need lots of work on them to get better type. (That's what I raise. XD)

I have a doe I am not seartin of her color, look on our website, she is the first one on the ND does page. or web is: http://www.bunnyblissrabbitry.com
I have a lilac point, and a chcolate point buck. :)Also in the nest box I have a harliquine with an orange base. And in the othernest box there is a blue and a chestnut.
