I've been trying to win a Furminator on Ebay for about...4 days now. I really didn't want to pay more than $20. Yesterday after seeing how badly Dahmer, Lumi, Lilith and Princess needed a good brushing, I upped my bids to $25 (including s/h)

Well me being the Craigslist addict, I went to do my daily rounds :p I noticed someone put up a Furminator for sale for only $20 and they lived in Huntington Beach too! I emailed them right away and guess what? They live a 5 minute walk from me!!!!! So Rina will be a new owner of a Furminator starting today and everyone will get a good brushing! <3<3<3

Who is this Craig, and why does he have such a long list? :?

I REALLY REALLY want a furminator, but they are about $80-$100 last time I looked .

Well Michelle, sending you a furminator only costs about $20 (it takes 5-10 days) and on Ebay I could probably win one for anywhere from $20-30. I could buy one and send it to you if you'd like. You might end up paying as much as regular retail value in the US but it'll be a lot cheaper than $80-100.

Hey Okiron, I have a question.

Is a furminator really as good as the videos show? My dog (a.k.a. Kaya/The Dog/Bozo/Dingdog - see my avatar) has short, stiff hair with a dense downy undercoat, and the house is literally covered in her hair all the time. If I vacuum, the next day you can see a brand new layer of Kayahair coating the floors. And that's even when she isn't shedding. If I brush her with a regular stiff-bristled (or even wire) dog brush, there's still a coating of fur coming out of her afterward.

It's kinda like there's a Kaya-explosion every day at my house. I keep telling her, 'Stop leaving your hair lying around everywhere!' but does she listen? :pullhair:

Just thought I'd ask, because I'd love to find a brush that actually can remove all that dense undercoat (well, not all of it, or she'd be nekkid) along with all the loose stiff outer hair.

I just got to use my Furminator for the first time on Rory this afternoon! He has a very thick coat and is shedding incredibly right now. I really like the Furminator! He didn't mind me using it and it did a great job of pulling up the loose hairs of his undercoat. The brush also did a pretty good job of containing the hairs that had been pulled out since they were stuck between the teeth. I had a plastic grocery bag on the floor next to me and could easily pull the clumps of fur off the brush and put them right in the bag without lots of hair flying around.

Honestly, I've never used it myself :p I'm picking it up at 6 tonight (in less than 3 hours) I'll update this thread to let you know. As of right now, you cannot touch my cat Dahmer, nor my buns Lumi or Princess without getting a hand and mouthful of fur. If it could help with at least Lumi, I consider it a success. She clogged the drain in under 2 minutes when I gave her a bath.

Yep, sounds like the same problem I have. Yofi's rear end has also decided to shed recently - just his rear; I guess the rest of him is planning to wait for a while - and his coat is extremely short-haired and fine. It gets all over me every time I pick him up.

I hope the brush works well for you! And if it does, I think I'm gonna consider investing in one too...;)

Thanks Okiron!

I'm not Okiron but my dog sort of has your dogs hair type and I use a brush called a Rake brush, it isnt really a brush. It is metal, or something hard like that, and it has about 10 spike looking things and and it is good at taking the undercoat from the dog. I use it especially on her rear end and under her neck on her chest area, doesnt stop the shed but helps alot. There is nothing out there that stops an animal from shedding and if there is i want to make an announcement that i want a truck full of it . I use this brush, very gently, on my one cat, he has got undercoat on him like a dog, it is unreal and he is a DSH cat nothing special.

Here is a link to what they look like, if you dont know what i am talking about.

Sounds like your dog sheds similarly to mine; thick dense undercoat around the rear legs mostly, and on the neck. (One of the dogs in your avatar even looks a bit like mine :)) I've used wire slicker brushes on Kaya, used a rubber one for a while, even have a brush that's designed for horses (this one):

I guess what I get frustrated with is the massive amount of hair that never seems to leave her body...the loose stuff that still remains even after I constantly brush her. I find the slicker brushes do remove a lot of the undercoat (I'm guessing they'd do about the same thing as the brush you mentioned, icequeen...I *think* (not entirely sure) I might have used a brush like that one in the past), but it's just that the loose hair is so blasted neverending!

Next time I get a dog, it'll be a Mexican hairless. :p

P.S. My cat sounds like yours too! LOL. Fritz (see the big gray face in my avatar) has an incredibly dense coat, and an even thicker undercoat. But he doesn't shed like The Dog...

WOW! Doesn't that horse curry/shedding blade cut the bunny's skin? I have to watch them with the horses even!

I have a zillion different brushes for the bunnies. LOL!

No Bo B..., I've never used that on rabbits...just used it (very gently) on my dog. It worked at removing fur, but no more or less than the slicker brush. :?

I was too anxious to buy one on ebay and it did not occur to me to look on craigslist. I just went to petsmart and bought it for $32 (it was on sale) so, far i have used it once and it did a pretty good job, but with my bun's coat i have to do a few more times to get the results i want. But, it was worth the investment.

Sorry for the wait guys, me and Errik decided to have a couple's night out and went down to Downtown Disney for dinner and window shopping. I got meself a Jack (from Nightmare Before Christmas) purse with a giftcard I had. Love it. Anyway...

slavetoabunny - It's all still active but if I do win, then I'll just resell them lol.

tiabia0 - It gets the loose undercoat that's already detached from your animal and bring it up to the surface for you to get rid of. No it doesn't hurt...just be a little more gentle with the buns and not push down so hard. My buns all laid there in extacy while being groomed. My cats fought over who I was going to brush first lol. I love this thing!!!!

I love the cat face in your avatar, lol. The slicker is more for the top coat, i use the rake brush to get the under coat out then use the slicker to get the top hairs off. But like you said the hair still gets everywhere. As far as a dog with no hair , as ideal for solving the hair situation I need my animals to have hair!!!! lol, all these people with hairless cats, dogs, piggies  they just seem icky to me,lol. That shedder blade you have used i thought about that one but that one just scared me too much i would wind up chopping something off with it,lol.

I take my dog outside and towards the back of the property to brush and i leave the hair , for our bunnie and bird friends to use for nests or whatever. Well until they take it all away it looks like something was attacked, there are tufts of hair all over the place, lol.

I have to say now, payday is thursday , now i might have to go to the store and check out this Furminator that i hear great things about :biggrin2:
