Hello,

I just placed an order on Kleenmam's Hayloft and had a couple questions. I wondered if anyone has ever ordered her Bluegrass hay. I thought about ordering it but wanted to get some opinions first because I have never offered that type of hay to my rabbits and the shipping is so expensive. Or if anyone feeds bluegrass hay even if it isn't bought through Kleenmama's do your buns like it? I knowevery bunis different. I just haven't heard alot about bluegrass hay being feed. I did read some links in the library that helped.

I was also curious how many rabbits you have and how much hay you go through. I have 2 rabbits and used about 50lbs of hay in 5 months. That's like 100lbs a year. That seems like an awful lot of hay. I am not going to cut down on their hay, I want them to eat as much as they want. I was just curious if that much hay is normal.

Thanks Amy

I haven't used Kleenmama's hay, or fed bluegrass hay, so I can't comment on that part.

As for how much hay I go through......My 4 small (4-6lb) bunnies manage to consume 25 pounds of hay every 4 to 6 weeks. When it was just Nick and Amelia, they ate 25 lbs of hay every 8 weeks. From what I have read and heard, this is an unusually large amount. (Nick is 4.5 lbs, Amelia is 6.5 lbs) Before adoption, we were warned thatthey were "big hay eaters." I think that was an understatement! I now classify them as "colossal hay eaters."

Oh wow Beth, your bunny's sure love their hay. That makes me feel better. It is kind of crazy when you think about how much hay they eat pound wise and how much they weigh. No wonder they poop so much!

I think the bluegrass is something that the owner of Kleenmama's calls some of her hay. ; I don't know if it is technically called bluegrass if you know what I mean.
I would pm Slavetoabunny who uses a lot of kleenmama's and may have used bluegrass. ; I ordered the 2nd cut timothy and it was very soft and nice...I almost worried about it not being tough enough to grind down teeth :?butI guess that they need different textures of hay

Yeah, I think the hay consumption can vary quite a bit, depending on the bunny. Benjamin hardly eats any, Nick and Amelia hardly stop eating it. LOL!
