My extremely large doe Sky gave birth some time early this morning. As she was absolutely enormous until recently i was expecting a litter of five or even six. To my surprize I only found two in the nest this morning. sky looks somewhat slimmer but her belly still feels rather large. I would have thought there should be at least three more babies in there but I did not want to prod her too much as she is not too keen on being touched at the best of times. She certainly behaved as if she had finished giving birth. She spent most of the day calmly in her hutch, eating, chilling and no sign of tension or distress. The two babies are deep down covered in a lovely nest of straw that she even covered completely. I almost did not find them at first. Both babies are fine. i also noticed that there seemed to be hardly any fur lining the nest although the nest itself is perfectly made and warm.
How likely is it for does to have more babies a day later? i remember reading threads about this before but can't remember much what the outcome was. I would really appreciate if anyone would share their experiences or advice. Thanks

It's likely, I don't have percentages. Some does just have a harder time with pregnancies. It is possible that they will have more a day later some more a day after that.
Best bet is to palpate her or just feel her stomach. About a day before they give birth they'll start kicking and moving and you can feel them. If there are still some in there you will feel them. Or she might have a retained kit, but you said she doesn't looked strained or in stress.

What breed is skye and How many days along is she?

Sky is a Netherland dwarf. I kept her as her type looked promising initially but then she would not stop growing and weighs probably 3lb and above. She is about 8 months and this is her first litter. she certainly does not looked stressed.

Yeah. I hardly ever hear of a ND having 5/6 kits.Average is usually 2-4. They have super small litters . She's just a fatty.

Just watch her till the 35th day

Maybe because she's bigger she'll have more though.

My 4lb Lionhead just had 7 babies . . . so a 3lb rabbit could have 4 or 5 you'd think?

I hope it'll all go fine and maybe you'll find some more in the nest soon :D Congrats on the babies anyway :)

She had one more and I felt her stomach. I am pretty sure there is nothing left. I really thought she'd have more as she is so large although not a BU. Three healthy ones is not bad!
