Well, 2009 is already off to a great start! My computer has a virus, I think. It keeps opening pop-up tabs, even with my pop-up blocker enabled. Also, my Automatic Updates are turned off. I did not turn them off. Also, I cannot turn them back on for whatever reason. Right now, I am letting my virus-protection program run and try and find the stupid bugger. I can't even set-back my computer to a previous date. The only available one is from today (after it was already screwy).

Why would people who are so smart make these programs to screw with people? Couldn't they be doing something to better the world? :grumpy:

I have a pretty good spyware thingy on here, too. It's through Trend Micro, and I never had a problem with it until now. Grr... I will try and download it later (if my virus cleanup doesn't help). I have too many things running right now! ;)

Chris put Avast on our computers as well, he trusts it and that's what he went to school for. I would have to say that it works because I am a virus MAGNET on the internet and I've not had any problems since he's taken over my PC.

You can download it free from www.avast.com

This is what my roommate's dad told me to download: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

It found a bunch of threats and got rid of them. It took over an hour for it to check my whole computer, but as soon as it was done, I restarted, and I was able to turn my Automatic Updates back on! Woohoo! It also got rid of the pop-ups! Yippie!

Meredith is my computer hero! Yes, Meredith is a guy. :p

Well, I got the virus on my laptop again. Here is what happens/happened:
- Firefox freezes.
- Takes forever for Firefox to close.
- Pop-ups galore!
- Internet Explorer opens (even though Firefox is my main browser).
- I get a ton of ads for this Antivirus thing through Internet Explorer - Hard to click out of.
- Automatic Updates (Windows) turns off and you can't turn them back on.
- This time, my Firewall was deactivated, too. I was able to turn it back on.

I think I know where it keeps coming from, too! The first time it "attacked" my computer, it was while I was on www.onceuponawin.com and now it just did it on www.failblog.com. Those are both sister-sites of www.icanhascheezburger.com and www.ihasahotdog.com. If anyone looks around on those sites, I would try staying away from them for a little while. It could be coincidence, but it seems unlikely!
