Every now and then I see posts from people whose computers have crashed and they lost all the photos. Well, of course that scares the poopies outta me

And now the problem is how do I copy all 3000+ photos on to a CD (or more?)?

Anyone here computer savy?

I dont know exactly how many photos will fit on a cd, but I know its at least a hundred or so, probably more. Do you have all of your photos in one folder? I would put a blank CD in and go to that folder, right click, hit "send to" and then choose the CD drive. See if that works.

If not, I would break up my photos into folders based on date/event etc. and then copy each folder to a CD and mark it. Thats what I do.

Another idea is to buy a USB jump drive. These come in all different storage sizes and you can copy pictures to them instead of a CD. My dad uses one of these to back up his entire harddrive, so I know they hold a lot. You can buy these pretty much anywhere (walmart. circuit city, etc).

You can PM me if you have questions..Im no expert. but after I lost my laptop last year with all my documents, Im getting good at backing things up!

Or, you could get an external hardrive to hook up to your computer to do picture back ups.

They work just like normal hardrives, you can put whatever you want on them even programs, except they plug into your USB drive or through fire wire etc.

Then you can just drag and drop from one hard drive to another. And just update it every so often.

That way you can keep a back up of all important stuff on your computer.

And I don't know if you can put data on DVD's but I know they are much bigger than CD's. You can look at that option if you have a DVD burner.

Thanks for the replies. I ended up copying them onto a CD for now. That will be the thing though, to update it every now and then. My pictures are the only thing I am worried about, everything else is a game or program on CD that we have so no biggie there. I have already had to dump my entire computer at one time from some bad virus or something like that from the internet. Thankfully it did not crash but it was bad enough that we had to start from scratch in a way.

You should get a dvd burner, it holds more photos than the cds, we have well over 5 thousand photos and they all fit on a dvd adn can fit more.
