There i was thinking I had found a substitute for the very expensive premium pellets i feed to my rabbits when i just realised i made an error as regards the ingredients list of the cheap pellets I was hoping to use mainly in future.
They cost only a fraction of what i pay out normally and I thought 17 % fibre was quite good:)
Except it turned out I made it mistake and the 17 % refer to protein (Thanks Paul:p) and they have a bit less than 12% fibre.
I admit I neither like the look or the smell of the pellets and after the list of ingredients I am slow to reorder them.
Would you buy pellets of the foloowong composition:

Ingredients

Wheatfeed, oats, grass meal, sunflower seed extracted, beet pulp, SO carbonate, soya oil, sodium chloride, mycocurb, magnesium oxide.
Nutritional Analysis

Protein 17.00%, Oil 4.00%, Fibre, 11.85%, Ash 9.20%, Moisture 14.00%, copper 14.60%, Vit A 9000.00 iu/kg
????

When I first got these pellets, I posted the ingredients and Pamnock posted and told me this

I agree that the protein is a little high. The added grass hay will help to reduce overall protein in the diet as well as supplementing greens/veggies. The lower portion of pellets will also be a reduction in overall fats in the diet, as those pellets are a little high in fat (especially if the rabbit isn't in cold weather). As long as the pellets appear fresh, they appear to be a good choice to use in your rabbit's diet.

Oh sorry, never saw the thread at the time (at least I don't remember) I wonder are they rather meant for meat rabbits, hence the name "commercial pellets"

I reckon so, since they are high in protein :)

I am really loving them though, nice weights, nice coats, bright eyes, firm poops lol!

The pellets I would like to feed them all the time but cost a about 5 times as much as the ones mentioned above are:
Protein 13.5%, Fat 2.5%, Fibre 21%
I found they prefer the cheap pellets and I am worried they may get turned off the "good" ones if I keep feeding the cheaper lot.:(

Personally I wouldn't pay 5X for good pellets because for that money I would be able to buy hay, greens & veges and cheap pellets which in combination would probably be better for the rabbits.

I really can't understand people buying expensive hay based pellets when they can just use hay.:?:?

Pellets are fortified with vitamins and minerals. Many of themhave trace elements that a rabbit cannot get in plain hay. As Randy has said over and over a rabbit needs only a small amount of pellets to get vitamins (like vitaminD and minerals )

Sabine I'm sure you're sick of talking pellets with me, As that is all we have been doing for awhile now ;)!

My question is does anyone Can you get Oxbow pellets over here, Or is there any of the British suppliers that send it to Ireland?

You can get oxbow pellets from a British supplier but it costs a fortune. I think I ordered from them a few times but the delivery costs were horrendous (charged by weight) I can give you the link if you like but you can imagine if even I find them too dear...

I'm even noticing for the price you get so little of the pellet like €13 for less then 2 kg, But sure the link would be nice!
