I feel kinda dumb for asking this, but I always just thought of my buck as a black. But when I blow on the fur you can see a soft gray under tone.

Wouldnt it be solid all the way thru if he was a true black?

His dad is a solid black, and his mom is a broken chesnut.

Thanks

He's black. It's normal for the color to be diffused in the undercoat. The standard describes the black undercolor as "slate blue".

Both solid blacks that i had, had that blueish undertone, the velveteen doe and the holland doe that i have. I'll try to get a picture tomorrow, if the holland will let me. she's a bit temperamental, hence why i don't show her, she's bitten a judge before for no reason other than to spite me
