Howdy

I have a 10 year old female Dwarf rabbit (albino) with an eye issue. One eye is totally closed and matted, we've been cleaning it with water and cat eye cleaning solution twice daily - but it's still closing up.

When the rabbits eye is open it's all white - which leads me to believe a Cataract which I read is pretty common and treatment isn't usually offered.

Apart from this Rabbit is fine, running around, eating, players with her friend and totally fine with our twice daily eye cleaning ritual so not in pain.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

My first suggestion is to move it away from any other rabbits, as it may be contagious. Then get her to a vet, cataracts do not come on suddenly. If you have contact lens solution (the kind you can put in your own eyes after rinsing your lenses with it) use that instead of the cat solution, that may be to harsh.
Definitely see a vet though.

I agree here ; this could be a bacterial infection gone bad and the rabbit needs a vet.

There is sterile saline eye wash that can be used to clean the eye and that is found in the contact lens area of the pharmacy but is not actually the solution used on contact lenses

Bacterial eye infections can lead to rupture of the eye if not treated in time. The vet is the best option.
