If you don't get my lingo, 'teethers' means teeth.

Anyways, how do you guys clean your dogs teeth, or do you send him off to the groomers to get it done, or just notdo it at all...

For the most part, I give Sparky diffrent teeth cleaning bones/chewies to do some of the work since he litterally does a dive under the couch when he sees his bright blue toothbrush come out.

I usually do a baby hold, while im cleaning his teeth, also somewhat of a head lock so my fingers/hand stay connected to my body.

Sometimes when he just won't let me, i'll wedge a peice of paper towel in between one side of his back molars to keep his mouth open to do the farther teeth.

Those things, you put on your fingers to do the cleaning is pointless in this situation, theres a reason the toothbrush is 10" long.

SO how do oyu guys do the dreaded teether cleaner-ing.

Oh!

I do this about every 2-weeks. Although because Pom's are known to have horrible teeth, they recomend everday, but if I did everyday, my life insurance would sky rocket ;)

unfortunately i dont do it to my dogs and that is why i will spend at least 1000.00 of my income tax to get their teeth done cause two of the dogs teeth are HORRIBLE

I dont clean phoenixes teeth.

I use the chews and she wil need to get her teeth done some time next year. But she will be almost three and have had to have nothing done in three years.

My groomer will do it if need be I may get her to start doing it.

I don't know if you can buy Pedigree products in Canada but, you can get denta rasks which, are made to remove plaque from the teeth keeping them in good condition.

When we first got my dog(he's a bichon/cocker) I used to clean his teeth every few weeks. I used one of those finger brushes as I found it easier to use them a regular tooth brush. My dog liked it, or he liked the toothpaste stuff and put up with my brushing. After about a year of doing it on a regular basis, I slacked off and stopped(that was about 6 years ago)

My dogs teeth are in really good shape though. He's 7 and never had any dental issues. He barely has any tartar build up at all and has never had any breath problems.

He seems to keep his own teeth clean by chewing on raw bones, and on his rawhide stick.

I brush my dogs teeth when I remember. I usually ends up being a couple times a month. Both are good about letting me do it. I use a small tooth brush and peanut flavoured dog toothpaste. They get rawhide bones and bully sticks, which helps a bit. Kara is 7 and Bree is 6, neither have needed dental care at the vets and both have good teeth.

I will not use any chew things designed to clean the teeth. They have way too many chemicals and things not good for dogs. The Greenines have had some issues lately. I would much rather go for raw bones than some of the stuff marketed for dogs. I don't trust most of those companies anyway.

My grandads spoodles get theirs brushed after brekkie and tea...They have there own toothbrush and holders in the bathroom and run in everymorning to get their poultry flavoured toothpaste.......And he also spends $750 bucks every few months to have them sedated and given a good scrub. Can you tell he loves his dogs?:p

I voted "never". We have only had Sammy for 1 year (he is about 2 years old). I never really thought or researched about teeth cleaning. I probably should look into it more!

Actually...Sam might have had his teeth brushed a few months ago when we won a free dog groom at a new pet salon in town.

Does rawhides really help keep teeth clean? Sammy usually always has a rawhide because it is the only "toy" that keeps him busy & out of trouble....he destroys all other toys.

i always thought that rawhide was a no no and bad for dogs and that there have been dogs that have chocked and died from the rawhide from getting stuck in their throat? after hearing that a trillion years ago i never gave my dogs rawhide

For big dogs thats a huge problem the main problem with raw hides is stick it in a bowl of water over night and look how it swells.

That happens in the stomach and they get lodged in the intetins. I give phoenix raw bones Mussel meat time bones to chew on and give her traceias also.

Especially those rigid bones, they get in the teeth spaces and essentially cleans it

Yeahh i dont like to give my dog raw hides as he's a little dog and i'd rather not risk it.
Anyways! I brush my doggies teeth about every month i think. i give him a bath and brush them around the same time. usually if i notice doggy breath or tartar build up on his teeth.
