Hi everyone,

I have a question about Devon. When he wants to get out of his NIC cage(even if its 4 in the morning) he chews and rattles the cage bars. Iused to do a water gun spritz, but that no longer even phaseshim. How can I get him to stop? Not only is this behaviorannoying, but I am afraid he could get hurt.

Thanks,
Bunnydude

This behavior is nearly impossible toprevent. It is not only annoying, but can cause damage to theteeth. Try putting a large hay rack full of hay on the doorwhere he is chewing on the bars.

Jeepers, do I know about that...sheesh

Imagine if you will an old typewriter the one with the carriage that moves back and forth.

Gracie starts on one end of the bar... tap, tap, tap, tap, tap tap (orsubstitute tap for chew) and then licks the bar all the way back...slurp slurp slurp, slurp...

The process goes on for half an hour.. tap tap tap tap slurp slurp slurp tap tap tap slurp slurp slurp

OMG am gonna lose my mind LOL

Before Katy and I even put up the binderclip inEmmy's cage, she would always rattle the top part of her cage, and thecage door would open. Usually, Emmy eattles her cage if she wants tohop around for a little while, or just wants some attention.

There is, futhermore, no way you could stop Devon's rattling, but to say firmly 'no.'

Bitterapple or bitter orange on the bars where he's doing this? (hopefully he wouldn't just move to another area!)

Oh boy..Devon sounds like Emmy.

Except for you its in the morning..it's in the middle of the night forus. It really IS annoying, but to make her calm done I just put her ina trance and tell her to go to bed and rest for the day. She stillchews on her cage bars but after 2 mins. she'll stop.

Good luck with Devon,

- Katy

I was going to suggest the same thing. But, I haveafriend that did that same thing and the rabbit actually developed ataste for it and LIKED it...? :?

I put a bird toy on the door of Vash's cage soit licks and moves it across the bars when he wants out. Justas loud, but better for his teeth. :p

I'll have to try some of those. The sounddoesn't bother me that much, I am more worried about Devon gettinghurt. Maybe I could move the hayrack onto the door. And he does get abunch of out of cage time, but the problem is that whenever he sees meat my computer, he decides it is time to come out again. lol!:)

my older bunny Rue would always make noise wheni was sleeping, so i would always shout a big "oi" at her, i also didthis when ever she was bad, and she soon learned that night time isquite time. However my new baby had started chewing on the cage atnight, and he doesn't give a flip for the "oi" so i got these woodenchew toys and every time he chews the cage i show him his toy and thathas started to work. Good luck!
