My rabbit will chew on the bars of his hex crate and cage all the time. I know they chew on things to wear down their teeth but he wont touch the block of wood we have for him. It's normal right? He chews on it almost constantly.

If he has chew toys he could be bored, stressed, or frustrated. I'm not sure how you house him or how much exercise & interaction he gets but if you haven't, maybe consider bunny proofing your home and letting him out of the cage more. Or let him outside in a playpen, just keep him occupied. rabbits can be occupied by digging, eating, exploring, and social interaction. They are naturally most active in the evenings and early mornings, and sleep most in the afternoon. He is probably going to chew the bars when confined at a time he is most active. Try noting when he sleeps and when he is active and adjusting your routine so he gets exercise during the active period to wear him out.

I usually let him out from around 4 - 7 in the afternoon/eavning. On weekends he gets out earlier. I would say he has a pretty big space to play. He climbs on top of his cage and on top of a box holding all of the rabbit food and bedding. He sleeps there because there is a rug. He has a box full of shredded paper to dig in. He also plays with the cats.

If the block of wood moves around when he tries to chew it, or if it is too heavy to stay in one place and he could push it, it's time to get a heavier block. Also, like ILuvMyLilBuns said, he could be bored.
