I have to make a Halloween costume on the absolute cheap. I've got about 3 metres of purple fabric (that isn't very nice, not good enough to make anything proper out of) and I need to come up with something! I could also probably afford some polycotton or something for cheap in any colour.

Does anyone have any ideas for any good Halloweeny costumes I could make?

AHHHH!

:panic:

my "go-to" costume is a black cat...

black t-shirt/sweatshirt
black pants/sweats

add a tail and ears.....use an eyebrow pencil to make whiskers...

you can do this with any color combo...then you are a calico!

go as a bunch of grapes....

green or purple shirt/pants..then blow up either green or purple balloons and tape (double sided tape works best) all over you...add a green hat for the stem

Mycheap costume is also a cat.:pI was at 2 parties this year however as I spent £10 on a lifeguard t-shirt for one I didn't want to be spending a lot on the other so my cat solution is easy:

Black top (easy I have loads!)

black tights (have loads for school anyway)

black shorts (borrowed off a friend)

tail and ears (again borrowed off a friend)

black leg warmers - the only thing I need to buy and only £8 from topshop - so not bad!:D

I'm going as an Indian! :p I was in the loft and found my old Pocahontas costume. Obviously its a bit small (Age 5 LOL) but the green necklace still fits! I dug out some pale cream fabric, so I can make a dress from that. Just need to buy some suede fringing stuff for the bottom and a feather for my head and it should be brill! I've got some fluffy cream slippers with little pom poms on the sides too so I think it should look good! I'll post a picture when I'm done!

No offense intended to you Fran :) I was just kind of shocked when I saw that you're going as a native person.:biggrin2:
I don't think I've ever seen a native dress costume for Halloween before up here in Northern Canada. There were a lot of native kids who went to school with me, and I've been to a couple of pow-wows. Frankly, we'd get beat if we wore ceremonial dress for halloween ;)

I guess it would be the same as you dressing up as someone from East India in Britain... or a black person in the southern US...
Funny how it is... I've got a kimono costume for Halloween, but wouldn't dream of wearing it in Vancouver or Toronto (large asian centres here).
Anyhoo, I think you'll make a very cute Pocahontas with your brown hair;)

(I think it would be cool wearing native dress and going to a local Pow-wow, but I'm really white and blonde: wouldn't want to offend anybody)

Gosh, I`m from Timmins and beleive me we probably had more Natives than North Bay, many kids dressed up (and still do)as Natives including putting the feather in their hair.

I`m sorry but now a days people get offened over anythng. Good God we`d all have to be hermits and not say anything just to make sure we don`t offend anyone. Just my :twocents

Susan:)

I'm not offended by it, guys... I've just never seen it before :)

I wouldn't want to run the risk of running afoul of some Native ppl in the bar tho... the girls in my hometown were really tough; would start a fight with you over anything:biggrin2:

The guys were super nice and laid back, tho...:inlove:
