Alright, so every year I have a birthday party around Halloween (my birthday is actually in December but I like seeing people dressed up in costume ) and this year I'm turning 18, so it's gonna be a big deal. I'm thinking of making it into a charity event and getting donations for the shelter I volunteer at. This is pretty early to be planning I guess, but I always start planning these parties way early, just so I get everything done.

The smaller idea:
Have it as I normally do, costumes, halloween-ey treats, all that jazz, but instead of taking presents, I would have people bring in dog toys/beds/monetary donations and give it all to the shelter. This option is more realistic, but not as exciting, and I would like a pretty big party for my 18th birthday.

The HUGE idea (not sure if this is realistic):
I would make it like a "carnival," I could have some friends help me set up/run games and people can buy tickets to win small prizes (like candy, vampire fangs, etc.) and I would donate the money from the tickets to the shelter. This option would take a lot more work from a lot more people, but I think my extended family would be glad to help, and it would attract more people, and also be like way super fun. We have a Frisbee park right next to our house, I know they have a car show there every fourth of July but I don't know how I would go about getting permission to use it, or if I would need to.

So you guys are a creative and animal-loving group, any thoughts? Ideas? Opinions? "That would never work, Ashtin"s? I would love some input!

Thanks! I'm going to have Boyfriend help me plan it, he's a lot better with money and such than I am and I don't want to spend more than I receive in donations.

I got the firehouse to let me use their dining hall for a benefit for one of my friends who died.. The money went to his family. I think if you just ask if you could use it they would let you. Idk if they would require that you rent it but you could always just go ask! :) I think it sounds like a great idea, need more people like you in the world.

Yeah, I was thinking of just calling our city's rec department and asking them about it when it got closer to time to have the actual party. I'm looking at prices for rentals for a dunk tank and things like that.
