Hello all! I am a new bunny owner, as well as new to this place. My boyfriend & I had an unfortunate situation where we received a baby bunny & 2 days later she passed away because it turned out that she was too young to have been taken away from her mother. Poor breeding. Absolutely saddening.

Anyways, we decided to get another one, but we went into this decision well educated and did a lot of research & looked for a decent breeder. We got Max, a Lionhead, at 10 weeks old. We have had him for almost 3 weeks, so he is just about 13-14 weeks old. At first he was really shy & afraid of us, but he warmed up SO quickly & was jumping up on the couch to be with us in no time. With time, he has gotten almost flawless with being handled, his eating habbits, etc. he's usually rather playful, hopping around the apartment freely, binkying, stretching out, rolling around on the ground. But this evening, maybe about 5-6 hours ago, I noticed he was calmer, laying around a lot more than usual, more calm when I approach him, and more calm altogether. He's usually like hyper, & excited to get out of his cage, but an hour ago he was just chill when I opened his cage. He ate well all day today with normal poops and everything.

So all in all, I am unsure if I am being paranoid because of what happened with the previous bunny, or if this is a significant behavioral change that needs to be addressed!! Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

(Sorry for the long novel, just wanted to be sure you had all the facts!! Thank you!!)

Keep and eye out for all the normal habits--eating, water consumption, and voiding as they are usually the first sign of something serious. Check the stomach to see if it's hard--usually a sign of gas. If he's grinding his teeth it's a sure sign of pain. If things persist, then it's off to the Vet. Sometimes ours just have an off day and bounce right back too. Bunnies are so hard to read even when they have been with you for a bit of time.

As bunnies get older they do tend to chill out a little (most breeds :) )
He might be settling into a sleeping pattern, as rabbits tend to sleep during the day and be most active during dawn and dusk. I wouldn't worry about it.

I've noticed that my rabbit Cheeto has days like that. A lot of times he's really mad at me for no reason, and just hides all day! Other times he's just chill and wants to relax. Days like today are when he's super hyped and runs around ALL day long.
From my experience, rabbits are pretty bi-polar. lol. They definitely express how they're feeling.
I would follow Nancy's advice and just watch him. I wouldn't worry too much unless he stops eating/drinking/using the bathroom.
