My friend Emily, who told me about Benson (my foster bunny), ran into a little "tough time" and needed my help.

Emily was supposed to move into a 5 bedroom house with Paris (who she owns the cleaning business with), but things didn't work out with that and she is now staying with a friend who can't have cats at her place :?.

The kitties were staying with her dad at his place, but her dad isn't responsible and she was afraid that while she was on vacation for this week, he would give the cats away or something.

So, I am "cat sitting" her two kitties while she waits for the local cat rescue to find a temp. foster home for 3 months for the kitties, while she searches for a house to rent. Our boss at work is on the board for the local kitty rescue (Miss Kitties Cat House)...and she is asking around for a temp. foster home :).

So, "Charlie" and "Jersey" are staying with Ryan and I for two weeks :p.

Serious question......How do you control a 6 month old kitten? Jersey is NUTS....won't stop causing trouble...oh my gosh! She is freaking out and running through the house and playing with cords...SHEESH!!

Charlie, on the other hand, is an absolute cuddly-sleepy kitty girl.

Gasp! Calico cats! I collect them. Send them to me!

Any advice on how to control a 6 month old kitten, since you are the "kitty lady" :biggrin2:?

I gave Jersey a TON of toys that are the rats and bunnies. She is having a blast playing with them, but my living room is now trashed with toys...hahaha. It's like having a little kid in the house .

have you ever had a six month old puppy

Well cats are the same but they can jump on things a lot better. which in turn make them able to knock stuff over.

Don't let them get bored repeat dont let them get bored.

Thats the key to babys period

I don't think the words control and kitten belong in the same sentence.

Well, yes I have had a puppy before, but they are very different :p.

Jersey now seems more interested in all the toys instead of my cords and curtains :). I haven't had a kitten around me in soooo long, so this is practically new, lol.

These kitties have lived in this house before, because Emily lived here just before we moved in....so that helps the kitties relax some, I bet.

Sheesh....I have a foster bunny, kitty sitting, and I have to dog walk/sit this weekend for the cutest Beagle on the face of the earth :D.

Too right, Leaf!

When Lily was a kitten she liked to chew cords, but I found that aluminum foil kept her away. Try wrapping it around all exposed cords. If that's not enough, but Vicks Vaporub on them often.

Lol!!! You want to control a kitten? If you figure out how, do share because I think you would be the first person on the planet to figure this one out.

Seriously though, keeping her entertained is about the best thing you can do.

They are both calicos too. . . lots of attitude there I'm sure!

Boy, I couldn't echo these points loud enough!

Calico + kitten = goofball kitten with slight (or serious) attitude! LOL!

I suggest also getting one of those toys that has something dangling from the end of a pole (like a fishing rod, sorta), and taking the time to play with her like MAD before you go to bed. That way, she'll tire out enough, she'll cause less trouble.

And never...I repeat NEVER give that kitten catnip! Wherever the catnip lands, she will love that spot on the rug for eternity, and anytime she smells it (and those catnip particles are TINY), she'll go nuts all over again. The smell takes a VERY long time to come out, even if you've vaccuumed the spot! Just something I learned with my own kittehs...

But otherwise, I think you'll do just fine, Hun. Sounds like you are already with stocking them up on toys! :)

As I type this, Jersey is rolling my laundry basket around the living room like it was a ball :craziness.

The local Miss Kitty's Cat House has those dancer toys. I will have my friend Karin pick me up one tonight if she is going to the Cat House to do her volunteer duties.

So far my paper lamp shades are still all in one piece!

The cats are hilarious. Charlie just sits in the background and watches Jersey run around and I know Charlie is just sitting there thinking she is totally nuts.

I had to go to the store and get kitty food and kitty litter for them. Emily told me to go to Walmart to get some Purina Healthful Life or some junk....first ingredient is chicken by-product, but it did have veggies and fruits in it. I felt embarrassed buying it. I am going to talk to Emily and see if she will switch their food to something a lot better.

I got a sweet kitty toy from the Cat House tonight. It is this rubber spikey ball thingy on the end of a wire, attached to a wood handle.

I'll try to take some videos for you guys, of Jersey (the kitten) going nuts :biggrin2:!

My version of controlling my kitten is taking her to work with me. I am the only person in the office who brings my cat to work (every else brings their dog), and I have very good reason. Cats, especially kittens will make toys out of everything, and I do mean every thing! Aurora became a clepto at 3 months, fascinated in coins at 4 months (used to carry pennies in her mouth running at top speed, talk about a heart attack), and able to leap tall buildings in a single jump at 6 months.

Another great toy is the "da bird" toy. http://www.thecatconnection.com/page/TCC/PROD/TYS-WAND/TYS-4990?gclid=COW6_rjh1pICFQKwPAod4QhImg
It's two big bird feathers attached to a string, hanging from a wand. Requires little effort from the handler, and wears cats out pretty quickly. Also Macaw and Pheasant feathers work wonders. Every time we have a macaw come in for a wing trim, I take a feather or two and my kitten spends hours tossing them around. Milk jug rings also make great toys, as well as the lids. And one of my cat will spend hours playing with a dried up washcloth (wash cloth that has been wet and allowed to dry stiff).

Well, the kitties went to stay with a lady who Emily and I work with a couple weeks ago. Things didn't work out (lots of issues going on with the lady) and now I have Charlie and Jersey back with me for a while :).

Charlie is a little skinny (well, she is still a chub-butt), the lady apparently wasn't feeding them much and kept a dirty litter box.

I joined a kitty forum to learn more and Ryan and I are also thinking about adopting our own kitty at the huge adoption event this weekend at PetSmart.

I never thought I would say this, but I really love kitties now . I am still trying to read their language though and what their different meows mean and such...it's tough for me, lol!
