I posted on the rescue page about needing to rehome Lucy, since as of right now I have been unable to do that I have been forced to move her to the basement. The basement is heated and dry but we use it for storage not for day to day living so it's not my first choice but I don't really have a choice.

I have made her a nic cage using the space underneath the steps so it's a rather large space. Since she isn't going to be getting as much human contact as does while living in the livingroom I would like the cat to be able to get into her cage. They have been raised together and get along very well they spend alot of time together, my question is how do I made the cage short enough so that the cat can get in and out but tall enough so that Lucy can't get out. I have seen other cages that are two cubes high with no roof, Lucy would jump that easy. She jumps onto our computer desk all the time and it's higher than that. I thought of just putting a chair on the outside, the cat can jump on the chair and then into the cage but they how is she going to get out? A cat should be able to jump three nic cubes high shouldn't it?

I am going to continue looking for a good home for her because I hate the idea of her being in the basement by herself but right now I don't have any other options.

If anybody has any suggestions I would love to here them.

Thanks!

Angle the cage underneath the steps so that the cat can leap off a step, into the cage.

Or, put a carpeted board/plank in at a sharp angle... like scratching post on a slant. Cat should be able to climb it up and out, but Lucy won't be able to get purchase with her nails.

Put a chair down there for yourself... I'm sure she'd love your company...
