I was thinking of calling some stores to see if they have any carpet samples or remnants for my bunnies to lay on. I tried fleece blankets for my lion head and mini lop. They started digging on them and biting. Definitely don't need them eating any fabric. Don't want to spend a lot $$ on something they're going to destroy and possible cause stomach problems. All my bunnies pee in their litter pans. Looked @ pet beds too. Maybe some free remnants? We'll see.

Carpet isn't something you want them eating either. Many rabbits like to pull at the fibres and even eat them. Carpet can be rough on the feet, so should not be over the whole area.

Fleece is a fairly safe fabric. It doesn't unravel like towels do.

Digging and biting doesn't mean they are eating it. Any bedding can be a problem is eating in large amounts.

Do you have Dollar Stores near you? I buy carpet samples there for $1 but the remnants are like carpet you would find in an office where it is thinner and flatter than even berber carpet. There are no loose strands or anything they can bite at.

Yes plenty of dollar stores. Don't think i've ever seen carpet samples. The ones i called about at the carpet store are bounded. They too are a 1.00. I went to the bunny show on sunday and they were using these bounded carpet mats. the other store i called had actual remnants/scraps that weren't bounded.

Oh i know i don't want them eating anything other than rabbit food and stuff like that. I did fleece and they just bunched it up and couldn't lay on it.

You have to be really careful using carpet if your rabbits are chewers. Injested carpet fibers can cause GI blockages, which can sometimes be fatal. I have a rabbit that is a huge chewer, so I can't use any carpet with her. I have another rabbit that doesn't chew at all, so I can use carpet with him. If you do end up using carpet, I would suggest getting something very low pile and tough, like something they would use in a commercial building. That kind of carpet seems more bunny resistant. And if you can make it so they don't have access to the edges, that will also make it harder for them to chew on it.

Ok heres what i got..I figure for a 1.00 its worth a shot. Its a tight small loop style. The edges are bound. Its not real rough like cheap office carpet. I'll put them in tomorrow so i can keep an eye on what they're doing with it. At the show sunday martin's cages had ones with cutouts and a bunny pattern hot glued in. Not too keen on the hot glue and i don't think i'd use them for everyday but my husbands going to try it out once i a pattern to use as a template. I can post a picture when its done.

My rabbits never bother carpet when they're out running around. My mini lop would live under my bed if he could and hasn't bothered the carpet. He's laying on the mat right now. I'll keep a close eye on the rabbits for any attempted chewing. The mats will come out for the rabbits that think its tasty. Thats if they bother with it at all. Thanks for all the input.

So far my frenchie and my lionhead are doing great with it. My mini lop who tends to be destructive didn't do so well. I took it out 5 minutes after i put it in. Hadn't tried the new girl. I did let her check it out on the livingroom floor. She sniffed a little and went back to binkying. Keeping an ear out for anymore sneezing then maybe try the mat.
