How do you position your rabbit/s for nail clipping? Should I hold him on his back? He doesn't just lay complacently on his back, he starts thrashing around after about half a minute or so and then he either gets away from me ori just put him back in his cage. If I put him on a solid surface, how do I get him to stay so I can clip? Any advice would be helpful please! I've only had him about 5 days now. Should I wait a little longer for him to get more used to me before I start trying to do this?

Do you have someone who can help you out? I generally find it's easiest if one person holds and the other clips. Your bun is young so his nails are probably still thin (and I'm sure needle sharp) so you can probably cut them with a pair of human nail clippers but when he gets older you may need to invest in a better pair of clippers. Personally I use the cat scissor clippers.
I usually either leave the bun with all four feet flat on the ground and pull one paw out to the side at a time or I'll wrap them up in a blanket "bunny burrito" and again, pull one paw out at a time.

Thanks, the blanket sounds like a good idea actually, because he is still getting used to me so sometimes when I try to have him on his back he starts flailing all over the place. If i sat him down on all fours, he just takes off on me. I actually was able to do one paw yesterday and ill work on another today. I was able to lay him on his back cradled in my legs sitting pretzel style long enough for the one paw.

I have to cradle hold my angora. She has dark nails so I just trim the very tips. My lionhead, I just hold her on my lap, she's calm enough to let me cut her nails and won't budge. She has white nails so I can see where her quick is.

I trimmed all four bun's nails yesterday so I feel your pain. I use the football hold on my lap. Nose to hand for the front feet and then nose to elbow for the back feet. They don't like going upside down so I try not to do that unless I have to.
