I rescued this bunny from an abandoned house. I think she's a Rex but im not sure definitely not a mini she is big. I want to show a bunny for 4-H but it has to be a purebred. Do you think she is? What breed do you think she is?

How much does she weigh? If you want to know about her breed (if she is a purebred Rex) try going to the library, here on RO. There are links about all sorts of bunny breeds, including the Rex.

She does look like a Rex, but see what others think as well ;)

Also, is there no pet category in your 4-H rabbit program? I'm in 4-H and I show both purebreds & mixes....I'm sure there must be one, because lots of 4-hers don't have purebreds, they mostly start out with a mix-bred. Maybe ask the 4-H Extension office or rabbit leader. I'm sure someone will know.

ETA: Here is the link to the Bunny Breeds Library page for the Rex. It lists some important information about their standard. :)

i can weigh her today.

Well our 4-H doesnt have a mixed one for rabbits. Only purebreds it's odd. I asked and they said no mixes only purebreds allowed

thank you for the website

She looks like a pure, broken chocolate? or castor, rex or mini-rex to me.

Something I noticed that's important tho - she's on a wire floor - she needs something to get her off of it - like resting mats. Mini rex and rex have very little fur on their feet compared to other breeds and they are notorious for getting sore there and it can be a huge mess if they do.

I thought that you HAD to have paperwork to establish pure breed for show? Is that just ARBA, or does 4H require a paper pedigree as well?

She is a pretty one, and yay for rescuing her!

there's only a little part of the cage thats wire the rest has mats. just when i took the picture she was over there.

Our 4-H doesnt require you to have papers but they do have a judge go around and if they dont LOOK purebred they wont judge you. Some of them have papers but not all.

Godiva's color isnt actually a brown brown its odd she has a more gold color then brown it just doesnt show up in the photo.

The cage i have her and the lop i have is a 12ftx3ft cage with a 2nd story thats 3ftx3ft and its under 2 big oaks. theirs a full roof with a 6 in. overhang to protect them from the weather. is that good enough?

that's a nice sized cage! as long as they can come inside if it gets too cold/hot or there's a storm or something, then i'd say it'd probably be fine. for the most part rabbits are better off inside, thought, just fyi:cool:

well the second story is totally enclosed with a little plexy glass window to let in light but other than that its enclosed. the first level is all open so they can get air and run. but i also i have an indoor cage i put them in when it storms or i want to play with them its 5 ft tall with 4 levels and only 3 ft wide and 2.5ft thick. but that is indoors and i also have a screened in porch that they enjoy to run in also 20ftx40ft with a pool. they love to swim

is there such thing as a mated pair? i have a male and female the male was fixed about a year ago. but when i was on vacation one time a next door neighbor let my female out i came back and she had been out a week. we couldnt catch her for a month. shhe didnt get pregnant(we have ahuge amount of wild bunnies by me) and the second she got back in the cage she wouldnt leave his side i havent been able to separate them since.

Godiva weighs approx. 4.5lbs she's definitely not fat she could even use some weight i think but she will only eat so much

Wild bunnies can't mate with domestics, as far as i know. A lot of us have bonded pairs of bunnies. My pair (tony and muffin) are both fixed, and they're best of friends. Sounds like your two are bonded!

Bunnies can SWIM?!!! I never knew!!!! :?

Yep! My late girl used to love a baby bath full of water in the summer, although I would never leave her alone with it obvously ;)

my lop JUMPS! in the pool with me when i use to go swimming i wouldnt leave him alone cause i was afraid he'd get tired and drowned. but he always swims or gets in the dog water bowl(and makes a terrible mess)
