Hi,
So I have two female bunnies that love each other to death, theyre always cuddling and licking each other. My friend got a bunny too and we let one of my bunnies (Kaze) play with her bunny as my other bunny (Marley) is a cripple and gets scared easily by larger bunnies. Turns out my friend's bunny is a male and got Kaze pregnant. I was just curious if it was at all possible for my two does to remain together while Kaze has her babies or do you think that it could go terribly wrong? I would feel terrible separating them because they love each other so much.

Thanks so much, and in case you're wondering i do not plan on having another litter of bunnies

I would think that the pregnant one will start getting territorial & they'll have to be separated.

You didn't say how old the pregnant rabbit is. Most does that are going to be bred are bred by about age 1, as a 1st pregnancy is easiest at about that age.

Are you going to get both your females spayed? The rate of uterine & vaginal cancer is about 80% by age 6, so they're likely to live longer if they're spayed than if they're not.

yes they are just under a year so i did not want to spay them yet but that will definitely happen.
I would assume that would happen too about her getting territorial but i dont know since they are such good friends.

Maybe it won't happen with yours, but I understand that some pregnant does become very unlike their normal self.

Most people on RO seem to get their females spayed as soon after 6 months as they can. Some vets will do it earlier than 6 months.

oh from what i had read it sounded like it was better to wait till they were at least a year old. so i was just waiting till they were a little older.
but thanks for your thoughts

also another question, say they are fine together while kaze is pregnant and then she has her babies. do you think marley would try n harm the babies?

I would separate them just incase, but put both their cages next to each other so they can still groom and lie next to each other, you'd feel awful if you kept them together then they had a huge fight and one needed serious medical help, or if the female killed the other females babies. They might both act no differently what so ever, but i'd rather be safe than sorry!

I agree, just because you never know what will happen.

I have read stories about bonded females having litters together and making one nest. That was pretty sweet, but seems more like the exception rather than the rule.

Good luck! :)
