I had recieved this email this morning,i have never recieved nothing like this before, does anybody know anything about this....

Dear PayPal valued account holder,

We recently noticed one or more attempts to log in your PayPal account from a foreign IP address and we have reasons to believe that your account was hijacked by a third party without your authorization.
If you recently accessed your account while traveling, the log in attempts may have initiated by you.

However if you are the rightful holder of the account, click on the link below and submit, as we try to verify your account. It tells me to log into my account

The log in attempt was made from:

IP address: 128.232.110.18
ISP host: shalmaneser1.al.cl.cam.ac.uk

If you choose to ignore our request, you leave us no choice but to temporally suspend your account.
We ask that you allow at least 48hrs for the case to be investigated and we strongly recommend not making any changes to your account in that time.

* Please do not respond to this email as your reply will not be received.

Thank you for your patience as we work together to protect your account.

Do i need to do anything with my account?

Hmm very weird.I personally wouldn't respond or do anything that the email says.. is there any way to contact PayPal directly to get more information or to report the email? It sounds weird that they would email you to contact you about the issue.. I haven't dealt with something like this, but maybe someone else has some more input?

If that is actually the case, then I can see why they WOULD contact you. Because, the "Hacker" could buy thingsusing your account/moneyetc. But you should contact PayPal directly, I agree.

That is strange though!

Emily

I use to get those all the time. Do not click on the link, and refer the whole email to PayPal's fraud/spam deprtment.. I think you can find a link to it under contact us or help.

Paypal doesnt send you emails asking you to click on a link and verify anything.

Hackers...

DON"T RESPOND!! That's a fishing email! THEY NEVER EVER send something like this.

They are trying to get your log in information. They've copied the paypal logo and such. SEND IT TO PAYPAL please.

They have a place on their site to send information on fishing scams.

ALWAYS type in paypal.com or ebay.com.

It's a phishing scam:

I agree - don't respond, but do pass it on to Paypals fraud department. I hate that people do this! Grrr. I've been getting weird stuff lately and I never used to - drives me crazy.

Exactly what Bo said above! My boyfriend is studying computers and computer security at school, and fishing is one of the most successful ways of stealing from people.

If you click the link provided in the e-mail, it will take you to a carbon copy of paypal that is not real. It will record your password and account name so that someone can use it later to charge your paypal account.

If you ever get an e-mail from paypal or ebay or a bank or any similar online service saying you need to click on this link and "verify" you account, never do it. Open a new internet browser and go directly to the site and log in, ie "www.ebay.com" or "www.paypal.com". If it is from the real site, once you log in you should have a message or notification by logging in the regular way.

Forward that e-mail to paypal, and they will do what they can to stop that person.

So many people are fooled into giving away their paypal or ebay or even banking information online that way. It is very easy to set up a website to look exactly like another website with a malicious program running in the back ground.

Cheryl,

My husband gets that email at least once a month.

He doesn't have paypal at all.....

Thanks guys

I definitely will not go into that account and i will forward the email onto Paypal

It's just that it's the first time i have ever recieved anthing like this :?

I don't remember what sort of email I received once but it gave me pause, and I asked about it on a forum. Whatever it was, it was *GOOD*. (very convincing, but not legit)

When in doubt, ask - thats what friends are for!

Yep..that's why i had asked...i must admit i was going to go into that link but then i thought about it and asked first.

Yep, I sometimes receive such emails as well; some saying they are from my bank, some from PayPal, some from other sources. My rule of thumb is to never, ever click on a link to verify anything online. It's just too easy to be scammed that way.

It's funny because i have never ever had any emails like that before...but yeah if i ever recieve a suspicious email again i will just report it to the appropiate people.

I have forwarded the email to Paypal...so now i just wait for them to reply back to me which i hope will be soon.

Even if you didn't click on the link, it would still be a good idea to run your anti-virus and anti-spyware programs. You should probably change your passwords too, just in case. It never hurts to be overly cautious.
