someone i know can't decide which one to get; a bearded dragon or a water dragon. they probably want a reptile that they can handle

i want to know in your opinion, which one you think is better as a pet

thank you!! :)

i am sitting here typing while my scaley one sits on my laptop. lol but if they are onlyyyy considering those two then i would go with bearded dragon for handling. they are adorable and docile and easy to handle. if theyre open for any other handlible reptiles though leopard geckos are definitely my favorit :) ((mine is my little princess and my first exotic that sparked my major as an exotic animal science student :)). they are handled easy but are MUCH smaller then a bearded dragon. and they eat worms/crickets/roaches while a bearded dragon is more of a herbivore with veggies and such :) both are good first reptile pets though :)

I do not have much experience with reptiles although I did own a snake for a few years and have friends who have had lizards. I also took care of a lepord gecko while in middle school. Bearded Dragons are really cool. They can be handled easily. They do grow to about 2 feet and need a BIG tank. The ones at my college are housed in 125g aquariums. The lepard geckos stay much smaler and you can keep a few in a tank that is LOTS smaller than the size tank you would need for 1 BD. If I were to ever get a lizard I would get the lepad gecko. They look really cool, need less space and are easy to handle. (note: It has been close to if not over 10 years since even seeing a lepard gecko and have never owned any reptile other than a ball python).

I love lizards although have never owned one. I researched them quite a bit so right when I read your post I thought either Bearded Dragon or Leopard gecko :) so Pwnzors pretty much covered it all.

My personal preference would have probably been a bearded dragon if I ever would get one though. Not for any specific reason other than I love their look.

Beardie all the way! Lol
I'm biased because I just loooove bearded dragons and have always wanted one! I've owned several different species of reptiles but never either of the 2 you listed.

Btw tell them to check this site out! This is where I'd get mine :wiggle

I have had two bearded dragons and my daughter had a leopard gecko. I mostly took care of the gecko as well. Your friend can look at kingsnake.com
Before I got any lizard I read a lot there. Most pets stores tell you all of the wrong things for taking care of lizards.

Bearded dragons can come in many different colors if you buy through a breeder. That is how I got my first one. The 2nd I saw at a pet store and way to young to be there, took pity and just had to get him. Bearded dragon breeders are like most animal breeders if you find a good one. They won't ship animals too young as the stress can cause them to stop eating, etc.

My daughter thought the beardies looked scary but she wound up like them more than the gecko. You can let beardies out to roam (like buns) with less chance of it turning Houdini on you. Both need specific set ups as far as heat and geckos need humidity in one spot. Beardies should have at least a 75 gal tank if not larger depending on how large it does get.

Both ate insects, the beardie also got veggies after a certain age and both got calcium supplements.
