Hi,
If anyone knows of any good NIC rabbit cages that I could build, that would be great. You can post pics of your own NIC cages too, that would be helpful! I want something like this: http://breyfamily.net/bunnycage.html except maybe a wall in between to keep the bunnies separated. Is that possible? if so, how do i do it?
Thanks!:big wink:

While you can put grids as a wall to separate a cage, it wouldn't prevent bunnies from doing harm. They can still scratch at noses, etc through the grids. It would probably be better to just build 2 separate cages and place them a couple inches apart so the buns can't reach each other.

The nice thing about NIC is their flexibility. With your buns being still so small, you can even build a multi-level cage but keep the upper levels temporarily blocked off for now until they grow a bit. Then you can just remove the grid or grids that block access to upper levels.

You can try some ideas out once you buy the grids. Connect some grids to make some outer walls of the cage and then play around with the grids to see what you come up with. Just keep in mind where you will have door openings at each level. You'll want to make it so that you can reach any area of the cage if need be.

If you get bunnies fixed and bonded down the road, you can always dismantle the grids and re-combine them to make a larger cage.

I can't remember if I posted this before or not, but here is one of NIC cages:

The above photo does not show the other doorways. You can (sort of) see where they are in the photo below if you look for the colored clips on the 2nd level (front and far side).

Here is the cage that I built today. First picture is of the doors closed.

This is what it looks like with the doors open. (Do to certain circumstances this was the only way that we could do the doors).

This cage is a 3.5x2x2. It has a devidor down the middle while the bunnies bond. I still am adding to this.

Blue eyes: what if i did a divider that was totally solid, so the buns couldn't even see each other? Would that work?

I am still in the process. I have had Beauty (the one on the right) for 2 weeks. I just got Shiny Things (the one on the left) on Friday. Before I got Shiny Things, Beauty was doing fairly good with using the box. Shiny Things has no clue that she is supposed to poo and pee in the litter box. (I am not going to worry about it for a while. She might be pregnant [long story] and this might be what she uses for a nest box.) I use Kaytee Soft Granule Blend in their litter boxes. It helps with the smell SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much. It is easy to clean. I have NO complaints about using it.

It comes in different scents. There is Lavender, Mint, Orange, Rose, Cinnamon, and unscented. I use the unscented because it is the cheepest. I want to try the mint and lavender though.

As far as the devidors go. Most breeders use a wire that is 1"x2" as a devidor between rabbits without problem.

If you want to bond them, then you don't want the wall solid. You want them to be able to see and smell each other. A hardware mesh with smaller openings can work, but that will be more expense. It seems easier to me to just separate them by a couple inches.

Litter training fixed bunnies is a breeze. I wouldn't use any litter with a scent. There are many things out there that are marketed as 'safe' for bunnies but really aren't. The least expensive 'litter' is plain wood pellets. They can be purchased at a home improvement store, come in 40 lb bags (lasts long time) and cost $5 - $7. Here's how I set mine up:

With 2 bunnies, I can change it every 4 days. If I wait longer, I'll begin to smell it.
